Update on my Gypsy Waggon

Postby koalamate » Wed Mar 27, 2013 10:14 pm

Hi,
I've often come to this forum to admire the fine craftsmanship from all the great contributors and get a fresh dose of inspiration. I posted only once, at least a year ago...maybe more. Over the years I've managed to piece together two trailers that I thought some of you might like to see--a teardrop back in 2004, and a gypsy waggon that is not quite complete but very nearly so. I have a site on Flickr where you can to go see more pictures of each, but I think I'll try to include a couple here to whet your appetite. The flickr site is:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/koalamate
and you'll want to look at the two sets--Darrel's Teardrop and Darrel's Vardo
Thanks again for all the great inspiration over the years.

The teardrop is beautiful and the gypsy wagon is a true work of art. I wish you had made a build thread of that one. I would have loved to follow you as it came together.

Those are spectacular beuties. The tour line for the vardo must extend around the block wherever you go.

Hi ProHandyMan, and everyone else too! Thanks for all the kind words. My gypsy waggon weighs 2380 pounds, and sits on a 3500-pound Dexter axle. This weekend I'll get started laying down the gold leaf for the scrolls on the roof brackets. I also still have quite a lot of exterior pinstriping still to do. It'll be a nice 65 degrees in Denver this weekend, so I should get a lot done. I'll probably move the discussion over to the Nontraditional Designs topic. A couple of people mentioned that they'd like to see a build journal. The flickr link in my original post has a fairly comprehensive build journal (Darrel's Vardo), but it take a long time to sift through it all. Also, there's a set I did just on the carriage lamp restoration, which ate up a lot of time. And of interest to at least a few of you out there, I have a build set on the electric trailer dolly that I built. I can't speak highly enough of the guy who worked up the plans for that.
