Hi All,
I've been inspired to build a teardrop trailer. I'm leaning towards the Grumman 2. I believe I saw an article in Sunset showing some of the new tears and as I got into looking around found this fantastic forum. My parents had a teardrop when I was a kid and did a lot of camping in it. My mom is looking for pictures that I will post if she finds them. My dad was an avid photographer and I know we have old photo's somewhere. I'm ready to get started and have really honed in a couple of people's builds that I relate to. The Atma Travelear is really nice and I like all the great details for the build. Extremely helpful when you're trying to understand the scope of the project. Tom's build in Texas is also really helpful as is LCKelly from Washington. Lot's of great ideas...
I've got the frame covered I believe but I'm still working on overall dimensions of the tear. Initially I wanted a 4hx10lx5w. I'm still trying to figure out why for instance Dave and the Travelear went with a 56" width vs. 60". Dave is an artist and I'm thinking it might have been a design kind of decision. Anyways, I'm close to making the decision and believe I'll have the frame finished up by the end of the month. My friend owns a commercial trucking company and he let's me use his shop and guys on the side and it has saved me lot's of $$ doing it that way. Once I settle on the overall size I'll start a build thread and hope that I can get some help and friendly advice along the way.
Since I live in Roseville, CA I'm trying to sneak up to the Dam Gathering Friday to meet some of the fine teardrop owners I've been reading about and see the different tear designs up close and personal.
Cheers,
-Larry
