New from ND

Postby berikss » Wed Jun 26, 2013 7:47 am

Hello all. After doing some research on building a motorcycle trailer for my touring bike I came across this site and was intrigued by the wealth of free flowing information from the forums. My initial intent was to take a car topper (clam style) and mount it to a small trailer - Function over form.
Well, all that has changed! I'm going to attempt a small tear say 24w x 48l x 24h. Give or take. I have the plans some what in my head; just need to put on paper and start acquiring material. Very excited to start and most likely will lead to a full size tear. Looking forward to comments and suggestions!!

Eggbert was built on a 40 x 48 HF frame for my Goldwing.

Warning .....warning..... you need to greatly exagerate the tongue length to reduce the fulcrum effect of pot holes and road abnormalities.

After this picture was taken I had to add over 3 feet to get the little monster to handle well behind the bike.
Growing older but not up !

Excellent point. (tongue length) I have the side profile drawn up in AutoCad. Checking locally for aluminum sheet suppliers. I think once I have the sides cut out then I'll fabricate the frame to match. I'd like to paint the skin to match my bike...never painted aluminum before; i'll need to do a little research on that.

Welcome! Have a body shop do the paint right on the wood with automotive paint and clearcoat. Easy way to match it to your bike.
