New on-board

Great forum. Followed the travels of Stacie in her tiny trailer built by Fred into this forum. This is an inspiring story well told. I also kept finding this site because of key words Alaska and teardrop trailers. I finally made my solo trek there with my two Golden Retrievers in 2012 and want to return. In the process of planning the trip, I am looking to buy or have built a trailer that can make that kind of a journey. Not sure how I managed to find all those frost heaves on my last go around. My tow vehicle is smaller, this year I added an FJ Cruiser. So I am tuning in to get some ideas and find builders and manufacturers. My goal is to go north and add the Dempster Hwy this time and the new road when it is open.
Thanks for letting me follow along. Linda

Going along with the racing adage, speed costs money how fast do you want to go. A great deal depends on your goal a true off road trailer that will go where ever your FJ can take it http://adventuretrailers.com/trailers/teardrop or more civilized drop it and go Camp Inn http://tinycamper.com/index.htm Which will take quite a lot.

Thank you--these web sites are spot on. I am headed to the Overland Expo in Flagstaff this May and will meet the team for Adventure Trailers. Great folks who helped me execute my 2012 trip to Alaska. The second site is new to me and what a piece of craftsmanship and artwork he creates. You are right about how fast do you want to get there. I have always enjoyed the road less taken. I really like the classic look of the Tiny Trailer. Hopefully it would pull well. Appreciate your advice and all who welcomed me.

    Hi Linda,
First, welcome to the forum. :shake hands: I'm glad that you found inspiration in Stacie's trailering adventures.
Second, although you haven't said where you're from or what size & style you have mind, I should tell you that I do have for sale in Michigan an Alaska Teardrop Camp Trailer.

Hello Fred--exciting to talk to you. I followed the journeys of Stacie back to Michigan and all over the place. Thank you for being a mentor and teaching her the ropes with the new camper. I can tell you that is the hard part--trying to break into the camping world. While I spent a full military career, somebody else put up the tents. With exercises In the field I never had time to enjoy the camping. Now is the time--I retired awhile ago, but keep working part-time jobs. I live in central PA and planning a trip this May. It is me and two Golden Retrieves that are out exploring. I made the trip to Alaska/Yukon in 2012 May/June. Tacoma DC/FWC which is a popup truck camper. The dogs really don't fit--not even a shoehorn, and the door is too high for them. I like the idea of the teardrop, it is simpler, closer to the ground, and we can all be in the kitchen. They love the kitchen. I fell in love with the Yukon and Alaska and want to go back and find more of it. I am a photographer. So, a long route to, What are you asking for your Alaskan Teardrop?

Hi Linda
Welcome aboard. :applause:
Always nice to hear from someone who loves to travel and camp.
Hope you find and get a suitable TD that you will love to use as much as we love to use ours.
And if you plan to travel thru Beautiful British Columbia and the Sunny Okanagan Valley you are more than welcome to come camp with us here at the Farm.
We will be out camping and taking in TD gatherings for most of May but will be home all of June before heading south to the IRG.
And plan to host our own TJ Gathering July 24 - 27th.
Please keep in touch. :wine:

Hi LInda,

Welcome to the forum! Glad to hear you'll be chatting with Fred. Since meeting on this forum over a year and a half ago we've had many conversations about (well designed and built) trailers and Alaska. I'm sure you'll have fun talking to him.

Thank you Stacie. And thank you for writing and blogging your story. You are an inspiration for all who want to hit the road for a great adventure. I have spoken with Fred and he really took time with me to discuss the teardrop and his design. More importantly he is a wealth of knowledge about Alaska where he lived those many years. Appreciate the help and encouragement. All the best!
