Hello from frozen WI

Postby Mud Farm » Sun Jan 26, 2014 5:07 pm

Hi everyone! Been lurking for a little bit but decided to join the group. Found a lot of great ideas and threads already. I'm looking to do a cargo trailer conversion for a mobile hunting base camp. I have an old camper we've taken from Wisconsin to Wyoming and Montana for mule deer hunts the last few years. Instead of pulling that out there a 7x16 or so insulated cargo trailer with fold up bunks and room for quads would be ideal. I'll continue studying that forum but if anyone has any great links to threads for more ideas I would appreciate it.

Thanks everyone,
Justin

If you are located on the eastern side of Wisconsin we have an event the last weekend in April. "Cooler by the Lake" has one cargo conversion already registered. This belongs to Doug and Nan the co-director of the LOL chapter. I am hoping that Brian will also be registering and bringing his conversion also. Brian's trailer is top of the line. You are welcome to camp with us or drop by and get some ideas.

Welcome, what side of Wisconsin are you in. Love the old camper in your pic, would love to hear more about it.

Welcome from another Wisconsinite! We're located smack dab in the center of the state and will be attending our first "Cooler by the Lake" gathering in April. Love our teardrop camper, and did more camping with it last summer--than all the tent camping we did in the previous 3 years.

That's a neat trailer you have there.

Not much into Cargo Trailers, but always like to think outside of the box ......sorry for the pun! :R
So my first thought was to have a side access door right at the front one side only so as not to interfere with your fold up cots (wonderful idea by the way)| and have a full galley in the rear that would swing open on a heavy hinge to allow you to load and unload quads.
This galley would be hinged on the opposite side to your rear cargo door.
Once the Quads are out you just close the galley back into position and close the cargo door for travel or security while you are away from the base camp.
With the cargo door open it provides a wind break at a 90 or a long kitchen are when at 180. Also provides a place to attach your kitchen shelter if it is raining.
This could work for you???

Located in central Waupaca county. Thanks for the event invites! I will check our schedules. The camper is a 1956, the brand escapes me but Rayliner pops into my head. I know it was made in Baraboo, WI. I gutted the back half and built two bunks to go along with the table/bed up front. It has served well on several trips out west but looking for something more multipurpose now. All the toy haulers I looked at are overkill for me so the cargo trailer build looks like my best option.

I have lots of studying to do and this forum holds an awesome wealth of knowledge.

I have a second home just to the east of Wild Rose on Kusel Lake. It's where I keep my tear and Porsche for the winter. Matter of fact I will be there tomorrow for a few days. I occasionally enjoy eating at the Irish place up in Waupaca or over in King and I can often be found at the Farm and Fleet or hiking Hartman Creek. Almost always around for the Iola events.

If you don't make it over to Cooler I would be happy to meet you sometime should you have questions that I can answer.

That sounds great! Stop at the Wheelhouse in King for Monday night pizza, it's fantastic! I'm always at the Iola car show also. We could probably meet up there this summer.

I just picked up a 7X16 v nose featherlite. I'll start posting pictures when we start the build. I'm going to list my old camper on Craigslist. I'm trying to figure out what it would be worth. What are your opinions? It's a 1956. I have to go to storage and double check the brand. I'll try to upload some pictures to my album on here. I'll have to get some interior pictures next time I go out there as I can't find any on my computer. It does have nice new tires, rubber roof, and a Nuway stove for heat. I'm not afraid to take it across the country on a trip but that being said it is old and could use some more work. It definitely is all solid though and not rotting or falling apart. What would you guys think is a fair price? I'm not out to make anything off it really but I have no idea what something like this goes for.

Anyone know anything about Ray Line Trailer Company? I'm trying to find out more info on my camper before I sell it. Model #17. Google has not helped me out on this one
