Gathering in the Midwest

Postby meyeres3e » Sun Mar 09, 2014 11:08 am

Hi! Newbie here to the T&TTT forum. I am Joe from the Kansas City area and my son and I have built two Teardrops. Mine is a BenRoy style 10x6, my sons is a 5x8 of his own design. Looking for a gathering in our area. Missouri has some beautiful campgrounds with great facilities, but I do not see many gatherings here in the Midwest. Closest one is Oklahoma. Anyone planning a gathering in our area, specifically Missouri???

Welcome to the Forum
We live in the Pacific North West and there seems to be a lot of Teardrop activity out here.
We are actually Hosting the 1st Annual Tear Jerkers Canadian Gathering here in B.C. July 24-27th.
So if you are up for a summer of teardrop camping, you could link a number of Gatherings together and see some Beautiful country.
Hope you find something to attend and enjoy your camping. season 8)

Welcome to the forum! Besides the Midwest section you should checkout the North Central area for gatherings. One gathering that is pretty close to you is http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=57567 it is in Winterset Iowa.

Thanks for the responses! I really hope to make it out to the Pacific North West, thru Canada and even to the Great North East someday. For right now though, while I am still working and the old truck holds out, I was hoping for a gathering a little closer to home. We went to the Crossroads Gathering last July, and were quickly hooked on seeing all the beautiful trailers, home built and production models. Certainly a lot of talent out there and of course we came home with new ideas for our next trailers!!! Can't wait to start on the next one!

Joe, welcome. I was a newbie in 2007 (or so) with no teardrop. With the help of a couple of brand new teardropping friends I organized three SLO Gatherings (San Luis Obispo, California area). The first one filled a local state park campground to capacity with well over 30 teardrops. People came from all parts of California and as far away as Utah. The publicity for them was done here at TNTTT.

My point is that a newbie, like yourself, can organize a successful gathering. Choose a nice location and set a date. Announce it here at TNTTT and start a gathering thread for your area for people to respond (RSVP) and to build enthusiasm. People will come from nearby and far away.

If you choose a nice Missouri campground and set a date a few months ahead you and your son can organize a gathering. Some people call a real informal gathering a flash camp. It is easier (less/no financial risk for you) to pick a spot where people make their own reservations. Give it a try and you may be pleasantly surprised at the turn out and the new friends you make. As a local you probably know the nicest locations. Pick a local campground or a Missouri State Park you like.

Do you know who is your state chairman? I'd contact him directly....maybe volunteer to help start a local gathering. :). Here in Indiana were lucky to have had, and continue to have state organizers who do an awesome job...maybe you can help yours...

I know ifs out of the way, Indiana is a good haul from KC (man, I miss Strouds!) but we've got 2 official ones coming up....if you can still get a spot, come one out :). You can find the details in the forum hear, just search Hoosier Gatherings.

What park do you recommend near KC? The talk of chicken is inspiring me for a trip :)

In my chapter no one has to ask permission to have a gathering. Just figure out where and when you want to camp and then post it on the Tearjerkers and T&TTT web sites and see who wants to come. The most important thing to do is have fun! The more gatherings the merrier.
