Greetings from Oregon

Postby RyanB » Mon Aug 25, 2014 12:12 pm

Hello all from Oregon.

Just getting started and reading a lot of information here on this site.

Every year I take a trip down to Cali. I tried for a couple of years with an older camper on my F250. Fuel costs run about $600. Tried towing my toyhauler down there. Same thing. Fuel costs are crazy. This year I took our 91 Diesel VW Jetta down and fuel cost was under $200. We were loaded to the brim with camping gear. However I am not fond of returning to tent camping. So, I decided to look into a teardrop.

I am pretty good with my hands and general building of things so I decided to build one from scratch. Most people want a teardrop for simplicity sake. However with my wife, simplicity also means amenities... thus, at a minimum it must have a fridge. I'll also be considering heater, water tank, hot water heater and sink as well.

Just getting started of course so anything is possible I guess.

Below is what I came home with. The current walls/floor/hatch are getting tossed. Using the frame, wheels and rear lights.

Ryan, welcome aboard! I'm a newbee also. Ken from Eureka. Your way past the thinking stage of wanting one. You brought one home, I'd keep the diamond plate also. At least you figured out how to post a photo here. That's half the battle. I haven't figured it out yet ( and I've posted photos on forums before). I started building a small trailer for my daughter a couple of weeks ago. She designed it. Going to look something like my avatar.
It's a great world if you don't weaken!
Boats float and airplanes fly!
If you boat sinks you can swim!
If you airplane falls you can't fly!
