Brian and Sandi - Back, and leaving again today. Just a local trip to Golden ears today, for a couple nights. We are going to Black Mtn Ranch next weekend, and then I'm hate to even think it, but . . . that's the end of our camping season. After that, it's back to school for my girls, and also weekend lessons. One day, I will be able to go camping in the shoulder seasons. . . one day.

Thanks for the invite though - hope this fantastic weather holds out for you.

Tongue Box

Postby coquitlamglenn » Mon Aug 25, 2014 9:35 am

I built the tongue box this weekend. It still needs paint, and a lid.

Smaller plywood/foam components are stitched together to make bigger pieces.

It makes an incredibly light and strong component

A truly beatifull workmanship and lightweight ideas, texture and colors are   ! Where did you get your 1/8" pine/fir(?) plywood and what material for core, 1/2" XPS pink or/and blue? Did you use Titebond II to glue foam and plywood? I really like your idea of the radiator fan, how did your fan and reostat worked, no issues on the trip? I noticed on your fan photo the fan is rated 12v 80W, which translates to approx. 7A of current, while the motor control seems to be rated for continuous 3A only (looked p on ebay), how did it work, ok? I am trying to setup vacuum baggins in my garage based on small 3CFM single stage vacuum pump, where did you source your vacuum bag, pump and fittings it looks as really industrial setup.

Thanks
Oleg

I have just posted the next instalment of my build. Now that camping season is finished for me, I hope to be more regular with my journal.

Hello Oleg - thanks for the compliments!

it's 3mm baltic birch, 5'x5' sheets - I source it from a local wholesaler. actually, pink and blue. Titebond 2 to glue foam and plywood.

You got me on the radiator fan! I miscalculated . I actually haven't used the fan yet except to test it. Now I won't - I'll try to source a more appropriate controller.

And yes, it is an industrial set up, it's what I do for a living www.vurv.ca vacupress makes the best vacuum equipment - pricey though.

Thanks for the information Glenn, I have learned something new from you here! Such construction method seems better and quicker than traditional methods, but some preparation and of course the vacuum equipment is needed. There are a some wholesalers in Edmonton with this plywood too. I got 1-1/2" thick Foamular 300 pink XPS for the walls and roof as I am working on a relatively big traler approx. 6-1/2' x 13', folding trailer concept like a vintage plan on this forum. I wish you all the best in your work!
