Hello from NoDak

First time poster, long time camper.

Hello all,

My name is Jesse and I have been bitten by the teardrop bug for a long time. I'm a photographer by trade and tinker on projects in my off time. I've wanted to build a camper for as long as I can remember and my wife has jumped on the band wagon and is excited for the project (probably not as much as myself)

I'm still in the planning stages, trying to learn what I need and what design I like. I don't even have tons of funds for it now, but going to start to look for a trailer to start with.

Found this site and have been glued to it since.

I'll be looking for some basic posts on where to start. Do we have any stickied about electrical basics yet?

Cheers,
Jesse

Welcome, lots of info here! There are some good discussions on electrical systems. Starts about where I am...heavy duty extension cord, battery maintenance charger, a few LEDs/ flashlights. But heck, if you want to get into solar powered aircraft carrier @ a certain sine wave..there are people on here who write that stuff up on backs of napkins. ( and willing to help) :D. Great though you have your wife interested! My father- in-law left me in an almost insurmountable position. I had to buy an a.c. unit just to turn her head at first. But we are having a blast now! Well, I once lived in Why not Minot. years ago and If i remember correctly the winter is long and cold. I hope you have a warm place during the winter to work on your trailer.

Welcome!
Yes there is a great electrical section here on the Forum!
There is also a wonderful schematic, that has everything you need for a well equipped TD.
Remember......you can't have enough wiring in your TD, even if you never get a chance to use it all! :?
Good Luck with your build.
Where are you located?
There are also some good buys on parts and trailers in the Buy & Sell Area of this Forum.

Hi Jesse, welcome from another photographer. I did it for a number of years in the '70's and '80's for a living and now it's just for fun. Come up with a basic design and then turn it into a living document that you can change as new ideas come to you. I took a year to build my trailer, and it has become a work in progress. Every time I go camping, I return with a punch list of things I would like to change. I used the super simple electrical design for all my electrical needs and it has worked well. My interior walls are removable in case I need to run more wire or decide to add DC to my build. Bottom line, it is so much more comfortable than my leaky tent. Lots of info here and never a lack of input from the members. Enjoy your build and have fun with it.

Hello Jesse,

I'm a newbie like you. Also a photographer (but more as a hobby now). I wish I would have joined this site a long time ago. But instead I jumped in with both feet, bought a trailer and am figuring it out as I go. Being low on funds for this project like you mentioned I'm going inexpensive for my first build. I bought the Harbor Freight 4 x 8, 1750 lbs trailer with a 25% off coupon and got it for $290. There is info on this site for using that trailer. I don't think you can find one cheaper than that. Northern has a 5 x 8 for around $500 if you want to spend a little extra. Good luck with your project. I hope you post pics as you go.
