Hi Terry,
Using a local weldor to build you the exact frame to your exact specifications (starting height, tubing size, where you want cross members, attachment points, tongue length, etc) is usually the best method if you know what you are eventually going to build. You might as well invest the effort up front in figuring out the end product anyway and save yourself headaches "down the road" - don't just start with the frame and wing-it from there, you'll find that common sizes for plywood, aluminum sheet, moldings, etc... might make building a teardrop body on that unusual size frame difficult. If you are thinking about building with some standard TD body dimensions found on the forum here (4' x 8', 5' x 8', etc) you should be able to figure out body size and frame size pretty quick. Then you just have to shop around locally and find a good weldor who isn't going to fleece you.
Good luck and happy camping!
