Happy New Year - I just got a teardrop .!!

Postby Ramblin' Ruby » Thu Jan 01, 2015 4:03 pm

:D Checking in to introduce myself. I have a teardrop.!!! Had it about a month.!! Now I'm hoping to find folks who may have ideas about whether it is a kit, or homemade, or "store bought". It has a little different rear hatch cover than I've seen on any images on Teardrop sites. The furtherest I can go back is to an owner named Frank Group in Burney, CA. I'm the 3rd or 4th owner since him. I will try to enclose an image. :D

Very cute! Congrats! Even though I went modern I LOVE vintage trailers.

Are you in or near Burney? If yes you're in just the right neck of the woods to attend the Dam Gathering and the IRG rallies. It'd be an easy drive right in your neck of the woods.

Welcome Granny Ruby,

Whatever the origin of your new-to-you TD, I really like
the profile. It seems to be a unique one. I don't recall
ever seeing one like it on here or elsewhere.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Dear Mezmo
Thanks for your input.......I hope to do a lot of work on it this coming summer. It's a blank canvas for me. No one really finished it. Maybe as I travel - someone will have some clues for me as to it's age.
Sincerely,
Ruby 8)

Hi Ruby, what a great project you have to work on. No matter what improvements you make, none of them would be wrong. That's what is so neat about teardroppers, everyone has their own idea of what works for them. You failed to tell us where you are located, and there are a bunch of trailer folks that you can get in contact with. There may be a Tearjerkers chapter in your neck of the woods. If so, check them out and attend one of their campouts, no teadrop required, as walk-ins are always welcome. I suppose as soon as you give us a hint regarding your home state, some regional tearjerker folks will give you a hi-dee-ho and an invite to their next camping adventure.
8) ;) Good luck on your rehab-build, ask questions and take pics.

Ruby's Teardrop Saga

Postby Ramblin' Ruby » Fri Feb 13, 2015 3:00 pm

Well, I took a trip to Quartzsite and worked on the Teardrop while I was there. (friends helped, for sure) Since the finish was so pitted and "dinged up" I opted to paint it with a "stone finish"....Here's a photo with one coat - another couple of coats will go on this summer. A nearby camper came over and felt I was "ruining" it by doing that. My feeling is that I am not following anyone's rules when making this work for me. ;) She ended up liking what I had decided to do, and buying the old propane stove that was in it.....the lines were all cut, so it was pretty disabled ( and for my taste, it was just too big) . I also wanted a single bed inside, so I could sit up. I'm only 5' tall. So here are a couple of photos of what happened in Quartzsite. I am continuing to work on the galley and painting the sleeping quarters, now that I am home. Also, I solved the dilemma of the nighttime potty calls. I can set the porta potty next to the bed, and not have to get out. :applause: Oh, yes, the black fenders match my black SUV.

Ruby, It's cute! I think the black fenders make it look a little sharper and the idea of a slightly raised bed inside is a good idea. You can store things underneath!
I do hope you'll consider coming to the Dam Gathering on May 1-3, up in Lakehead, CA. There are usually more than 100 trailers and more people there to meet and get ideas from:

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=60861

Then, on June 11-14, there's the Twain & Tears gathering in Nevada:

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=60923

Please check http://www.teardrops.net/gatherings.html for other gatherings that you may want to attend.

Thank you, Sharon - I hope to make it to one of those get-togethers. Lakehead may be a good one to aim for.....It all depends upon my situation here at home. I take care of my 98 year-old Dad, and will need to find someone who will "fill in for me" . Thanks for the comment about the black fenders. That decision was to co-ordinate with my black SUV. :D
