First time builder

Postby Minor Project » Thu Mar 12, 2015 6:42 pm

I've been hanging out and reading old and new threads for a few months. Now, I am starting my build.

I've been inspired by all of the innovations that I have seen here. I decided that a standie is the thing for me, but I want to keep it light, so, it will be mainly built from foam, but my wife and I like the look of wood, so I will be skinning the walls with wood (I know that goes against the "keeping it light"). I don't know what you'd call that...a woodie, foamie, standie? I had the frame custom built and I am starting to cut the pieces for the body. I'm already have fun with this and I have barely started! Once I start putting it together, I will post some photos.

1/8 plywood completely glued(Titebond II?) would not add much weight.
I found that wood conditioner really makes the wood grain pop.
Some on the group have used latex untinted dark exterior house paint as a top coat ???
Just some things to think about. Have fun with the build.
