G'day from Australia!

Postby Tiedre » Thu Feb 26, 2015 12:10 am

Hello everyone :)
My name is Deborah and I'm a brand new member to your forum...I'm a little bit obsessed with teardrops and I didn't even know this forum existed. So I'm quite excited to find it, and to spend some time reading up about all your Teardrops and tiny trailers.

I am in Western Australia. Teardrops are really rare here...in fact I've only ever seen one, and that was outside a house with a For Sale sign on it.
Last year my husband and I were going for a drive through a little country town, turned the corner and there it was! We both immediately gasped, and of course had to pull over to have a closer look.
The elderly lady owner came out to show it to us, and it turned out to be someone I had actually met before which was a nice surprise. We spent a lot of time looking at the Teardrop, and then went on our way, and carried on with our Sunday drive.

But I couldn't get it out of my mind... At that stage I didn't even know that they were called 'teardrops'. The owner had it advertised online, and I kept looking at it and dreaming and talking to my husband about it... he wasn't too interested in it, but I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Long story short... a few weeks later I bought it. The long story is filled with too many co-incidences and signs that that teardrop was supposed to be mine, and I bought it without telling my husband. But he was fine with that...eventually. (LOL, no actually he loves it too now )

We renamed her Tiedre...just like Diedre and pronounced like Tear-dre, because well, she's a Teardrop :)
She was only 3 years old but she was in pretty rough shape... the previous owner has slapped a coat of paint all over it by hand with what looks like a roller and paintbrush, and there is paint everywhere...all over the seals and trims etc. The inside is fine...it's actually pretty nice. But the external parts and kitchen were not too good.

Luckily my husband is extremely clever lol. It took us a little while to figure out exactly what we wanted to do to it, and then my husband spent two weeks of his holidays working non-stop renovating the kitchen for me. I love it!
The next job is going to be getting the exterior renovated and painted. I have an orange car and so I'm going to have it painted the same colour...plus it shall have a little interesting twist that I hope will give it the 'wow factor'.

Anyway, I haven't quite figured out how to post pics here yet. But I do have a flipboard magazine all about my favourite subject...Teardrop Camper Trailers.
The first few pics are of Tiedre, and there are hundred of other pics of really interesting Teardrops.
Am I allowed to put the link to it here?? If not, let me know and I shall remove it...

I can't tell you how much I LOVE Tiedre the Teardrop!
She is so comfy to sleep in, and she tows so easily. We love getting away for quick overnight breaks to lovely private remote areas.
So happy I bought it :D

Congratulations! You must be so excited, and I can only imagine the beautiful places you will find to camp in your lovely country. We live in Michigan and we're new to teardrops too (picking up our first one from Retroride in a few weeks). I'd love to see your pictures but the link is trying to redirect me to install an app. Are you able to post them to your profile here?

Howdy Deborah and your Hubby ... Welcome to the site ...
:shake hands:

Congrats on your TD find and it sounds like you two are on your way to a great camping rig ...

I have been to Australia several times ... to Melbourne, Sidney, Canberra, and as far west as WagaWaga ... I had a great visit to the Ettamogah Pub somewhere between Melbourne and WagaWaga ... I left a Bus. Card on the tree trunk in the middle of the first floor ... I And love the people Down Under, everyone is friendly and helpful!!

I hope to get to the Western Outback and do a month or some of metal detecting for gold nuggets before I get too old ...

Ah, the link is to a Flipboard magazine. If you don't have the Flipboard app, it probably won't work.
Not to worry...I've just added some pics to my Gallery.

Nice rig! Love your updates. The extra cabinet/drawer on the lower right of the galley looks like an especially handy addition.
:applause: :applause: :applause:

What kind of shelter are you using outside of the camper?

Ah, the 'shelter' are annexes that attach to the teardrop...two smaller ones over each door, and then a much larger one that attaches to the back. They were custom made for the teardrop and are really quick to erect...the tarps just slide into roof rails. And the poles, tarps, ropes etc all store away in the box at the front of Tiedre.

The cabinet is fabulous! It was a set of office drawers that we found at a second-hand shop for around $20. I picked that one because it had drawers that slid in and out really nicely, and had the larger bottom drawer for more storage.
It didn't look like that when we bought it of course:)
My husband spent a lot of time pulling it apart and cutting it down, and reassembling it to fit. And then it got painted, covered in aluminium and new handles etc. it took him a few days to do....and there was quite a bit of swearing going on as he had to make a million adjustments to make it fit. But he did a good job I think.

Hi Deborah and Hubby and welcome. I'm from Northern California so were neighbors right? Camping is great but my TD also gives me endless projects to add to her as we go. I'm closing in on a running board for the side. Roof rack, folding bench, icechest holder, the list goes on and strengthens my bond with her with every step. It sounds like you will be great ambassadors for the forum and TD community.
Enjoy, Chris
