PNW Wyoming Woody Builder

Postby NWteardropper15 » Sun Jan 17, 2016 7:42 pm

Hi there from the greater Seattle area. I am working on building the "Wyoming Woody" in my spare time. I've got a few other hobbies, including home brewing, that I split my time among. I'm also over on HomeBrewTalk if you're into homebrewing too.

So far I've assembled the base Iron Ton trailer, added stabilizer feet, built an insulated floor and have just finished with gluing together 2 sets of 2, 3/4" plywood sheets using a lap join to make a sheet big enough that I can start laying out the profile. I think I'll start my build journal soon to keep everyone posted on progress.
This project has been a lot of fun so far, I'm learning a ton, especially patience, as nothing ever goes as quickly as you anticipate it to!
Measure twice, cut once, buy a new piece.

Welcome to the Forum.
There is so much build information here!
And once you have finished your new Teardrop, you will be using this, and other Forums for event information.
As the Tear Jerkers PNW Director, I would like to invite you to join our Chapter.
Please PM me if you are interested or need additional information.
And wait until one of our members "guitarphoto" sees this post.
He too is a combo Teardrop/HomeBrewer!

Hi NWteardropper15, welcome to the forum... :shake hands:

Nice looking Woody...
How did you cut/make your laps in/to the plywood ?? I always thought that finger-joints would be great and as strong as the wood itself ...

I like the older Retro Look and contemplated building a small standee (Styled after the old 1940 12-foot Terra Cruiser, published by Outdoor Sports Magazine) last year, using such a joint with plywood and foam walls, but I have so many other irons in the fire and I am already trailer poor with two good tag-a-longs...

Maybe I'll build one and auction it off, giving all profits for a charity)... Hmmm, I wonder what my boss would say to that idea...

Hope to see you on the trail...
