Hello from Florida

Postby peeler » Tue Mar 01, 2016 4:33 pm

Greetings,

Saying hello from Ormond Beach, Florida - just on the North side of Daytona. Have spent many years building this and that, and got to a point where we want a small camper. So found this forum and joined so I might could better sort through the vast amount of info here, and settle on a design.

I really like the foam builds with canvas and TBII, really great method. I had originally considered epoxy over foam, but..... well this Foam with the poor man's glass really looks like its been worked out by many here and other places.

I am still a bit lost on how I will find 2 inch foam board, here in Florida, my local big name Hardware store has .75" faced, and .5" unfaced. But I haven't done a lot of hunting yet so, I figure likely I will run across a source along the way.

Some really great builds in the foamies section. I dig the Kayak and boat builds I forget which member built those - I have been surfing most of my life and also done lots of board repair, and shaped a couple. Never did full glass work on an entire board but had to do 2 foot patches and whatnot. Ding repair is an annual thing at least :) Seeing the kayak and boats makes me want to build a massive Stand Up Paddle board using the PMF method :D

I haven't tried that yet. Digging more in to my planning, I'm thinking i may be able to use the 3/4" thick foam board available here. I see others have used it on similar sized camper builds with success and durability, so I'm leaning toward using it now.
