Starting my build here in western NY

Postby terryutica » Sat Feb 13, 2016 5:46 pm

:D Hi All
Starting to gather materials for my build next month. Plan on doing a benroy on a 5x8 northern trailer. bumping it up to 78x112 and about 5'6 high. My brother owned a campground by Letchworth state park and we saw a fue of these in our 10 years. were getting older and sick of the tent so moving up in the world. I'm a carpenter by trade so that part should be no problem but I will be asking for a lot of help in the finishing department. Thanks Terry

Hi Terry, welcome to the forum. Good for you, using your carpentry skills to build a one-of-a-kind teardrop trailer. I was also one, (guess I still am) and elected to build my woody about 14 years ago. I suggest you exhibit your skills in your build. Varnish is fairly cheap, 45 bucks a gallon at Lowes, will last years if properly re-coated ever so often. Check out the Hall of Fame to see what can be done with wood when applied properly. Good luck on your build, take pics and post em.

Terry: I consider Utica central new York. Anyway, it is a good place and time for a teardrop build. I finished my 5X10 on a stretched 5X8 Northern frame three years ago. We have had a lot of fun with it. Try to make the Tearup at Fish Creek Pond in June. Lots of good folks and nice teardrops.

Good luck with your build

Mike
Five cords of wood in, snow tires on, 5 X 8 NT frame on order. Gonna build a TD this winter.

Terry,
I just joined as well. I am in Brockport, NY nearby. My build is quite different from yours, but we may still be of some help along the way. Sounds like you are off and running. Good luck.
