Hello from SC CSRA area

Postby bherron1 » Sun Apr 10, 2016 1:50 pm

Hello all, been lurking around this web sight for over a year waiting on my now project to get complete before starting another. Well its done, time to start a camper build. I really like the compact 3 design. I think my newly built compact vehicle will pull it just fine. Has anyone built one of these ?

Welcome to the Forum wildbill,
I have seen pics of a Camper 3 that resembles a tent that can be unfolded from a car rooftop... Is that what you have in mind??

No its the compac 3 design here on the design resources. Tiny 10ft travel trailer with a fold up roof. Just saw another one same basic design with a drop floor and a trolly roof. Super cool. Im gonna build one of thoes. The plans for the compac is not yet complete. I built a 14ft boat from plans and that saved a lot of time and oh nos at the end. I think a guy name Allen is the one working on completing the plans for the compac 3 now.

Will do, Im leaning toward that trolley top with the drop floor. Had problems with water leaks on my pop up truck camper build. That folding top I really like but worries me a little.

I am probably old fashioned here, but I really like hard-sides and a fixed top. I don't even like slide-outs; a lot of people have them and swear by them, but I like the old KISS Rule, i.e., Keep It Simple S... Less maintenance and less chance of wearing or failing... That's just my opinion though...

I saw a some really nice plans for a Campster 12 and an Aussie Built Campster 12 that were great and may be a something you would like to look at... How about a Campster 12... The Campster is quite a bit bigger than the average teardrop - the body is 12ft long by 7ft (84") wide by 5ft high and with careful planning and construction, dry weight can be kept to 1,500lb or so. The trailer could be built at 78" or 80" wide to save a little weight and aero drag, if desired.

A search on T&TTT For Campster12: search.php?keywords=campster12
A search on T&TTT For Campster 12: search.php?keywords=campster+12

This one is from the search above, but goes to plan ideas: http://www.angib.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/t ... tear56.htm

(I hope these work this time)

Take your time in the decision process, decide on things like the design, capabilities, space, time, and budget; you will decide soon, and start your build/buy... Good luck and keep us posted...
