New guy with a Universal teardrop idea

Postby Acasper708 » Wed Aug 28, 2024 9:02 pm

So I have a Popup camper that was very cheap to me and the canvas has gone bad. We used it maybe 1-2 times a year and only used it for sleeping space. Never hooked it up to electric or water. I want an enclosed trailer but they are to pricey and I like the idea of making one with the pop up chassis.
My plan is a medium-large teardrop/toyhauler.
Basically just a teardrop with a drop down gate on back to load quad/dirtbike/minibikes. Inside at the nose have shelving maybe some type of removable sleeping platforms for air mattresses. Maybe a roof rack as well for kayaks.
But I just want to make something that can be used to store things while sitting in yard, can haul toys to camping and be used to sleep in, as well as be used for random hauling stuff around home since I don’t have a pickup.
Anyone here have something like it they’ve made?

That's a good description of mine, though much smaller. I built mine of foam, squaredrop, roof racks mount to embedded wood that carries the weight down to the frame. Big back door (I used a separate aluminum ramp instead of the door itself to load stuff) normal door on the side. Only 4ft tall, dirt bike barely fit.

I'd look at cargo trailer conversions for size you're describing.

There's probably quite a few kicking around, here's the harley hauler that's been posted a long while back:

One with a drop tailgate ramp that's more utilitarian:

Yet another take:
