Hello from Sarasota, FL

Postby Brian McAllister » Thu May 17, 2007 2:00 pm

Hi,

I am just about to get back to construction after over a year hiatus. Construction was halted by illness, but the return was delayed by inertia. Hopefully there will be continued momentum and I will be able to get on the road in the not too distant future.

I have been reading the forum to get myself fired up anew. Not being able to keep or work on my TD in the Mobile Home Park in which I live, I use a friend's house a few miles away, and have to keep it in a carport.

Here is a picture taken just before progress ceased, last spring.

Best regards,

Brian

Welcome back..................it's such a cool feeling when the walls go up.

That's nice of your friend to allow you to build at their house. I drove a 1/2 hour each to work on mine. My buddy Bill was retired, had all the tools, and had plenty of good advice so I was fortunate to get a lot done before finally towing it home to complete.

Have fun getting back to building,
Barb

looks very good, keep it up.
You`ve just given me an idea of how to hold the walls up straight when framing, use the corner off cuts screwed to 2x1s, corners already 90 degrees as a start point ( i noticed you`d done it :D )
If evvr tha dus owt fr nowt, allus do it fr thissen

Yes, it is, but we all have to add our own little touches, whether it improves things or not. Sometimes just to cover the mistakes.

That's one of the things that always bugged me about the Cubby plans. Drove me NUTS:

In the very begiining of the plans, way before you get to your cut the walls part, they tell you to take two corner pieces of ply, and attach 2 by 2s, to make these pieces to plumb up your wall.

But they don't tell you that once you cut your sides, you'll HAVE these little ply pieces. It might seem obvious, but it ISN'T to a lot of new builders, and a lot of us actually create those plumb pieces and later think, "Duh? Why didn't the plans tell me to WAIT to make these things until AFTER the walls are cut?"

Hey I was just at Clark and Beneva a week ago with my trailer at a car show. People just love seeing these things. Gave away some of those "business" cards I made with this forums address on them. You may have some other builders in your area soon.
Good Luck with your build!

Clark and Beneva. I know it well. That is where the Harbor Freight store is located. What was the venue for the Car Show?

I will be up your way this Saturday morning for the Florida Antique Wireless Guild swap meet in Orlando. Vintage radio and tube audio equipment restoration is another of my vices.

Yup, Horrible Freight is one of the sponsors of the car show. Usually a small show, about 40 cars, held the second saturday of the month.
Was visiting my folks for mothers day.

May be there again next month.
