Hi all,
I just signed up and have been reading for the last couple of days since I found this site. I have been thinking about buying an old camper to rebuild for a few years now but then I got the idea to build my own little camper about a year ago. I found designs on the Glen-L website but the designs looked outdated.

Since I am finally coming to the end of work on our house, I am thinking more seriously about building a small travel trailer for use as a field communication trailer. I am an amateur radio operator and I thought I could incorporate two hobbies by building something I could use for short camping trips with the wife and kids but also use for my amateur radio interests.

Currently we have a 2004 Starcraft Pop-up with a 10 foot box and that is comfortable for most our camping needs and for longer trips. What I am planning to build (someday) is something about 10 to 13 foot long and 6 feet wide. More than enough for a short trip with the kids and a nice hideout for my radio gear!

Image rohnk to the playground. That is a great trailer and would make a great TD if you loose some of the steel. 8)

Ditto to what Mike said. The winter warror and escape hatch are great and give you room to stand if needed.

Just a little reminder---Madone and Mad Aussie really have a need :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: We like to keep them and us in good supply. ;)

Enjoy

And lots of room for radio equipment, with easy access from the back door. ;)

Welcome to the forum. There is lots of useful information here on building or rebuilding all kinds of TearDrops & Tiny Travel Trailers.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am almost finished with the kitchen remodel in our house and then I will be ready to start considering design options for my TTT. I had thought about going with a TD but I think I want to start with something more simple for the first try.

I'm thinking of something of a cross between the LiL Guy trailer from the vintage archives and the 2+2 from the design library. Basically, the height of the LIL Guy with the stylings of the 2+2 without a hatchback gally though. The overall dimensions would be around 6 feet wide, 10 feet long and 5 feet high.

I really like the lines of the "Tilde" camper based off the T@B. I will probably wind up copying the idea to a degree especially where the air conditioner mounts. I really like the styles of that one! For my "special touch" I plan to design a bed area that will convert to a desk for my radio gear. That way I can hide it under the bed and noone would be the wiser!

Boy, I think I might go cross eyed looking at all the wonderful designs here and the nice trailers that everyone else has built! It really gives me a sense that I can do this project! I will plan to start either this fall or next spring after I have finished a clear plan and discussed options with the boss (wife)!

Cheers for now! I'm going back to lurking to learn what I can before I ask a bunch of questions! Thanks again!

Welcome to the group HI HI.
There are several other Hams in the group and yes with radios in them. So if you are looking at a portable Ham Shack your are not alone. Good luck on your build. Mine is simple like Warpony's trailer with some changes and larger.

P.S. You stumbled in from the same sites to the forum as I did over a year ago.
