More New Folks

Postby johnnlynn2 » Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:26 pm

Hi,
My name is John and my wife is Lynn, we live in NE PA. I saw a segment about TEARDROPS a year ago or so on the History Channel. They looked very interesting and very practical. I saw a couple being towed on the interstate and became hooked. The boss at work is a die hard fisherman and got hooked (no pun intended) on tears too and we've been researching quite a bit.
I tried to explain the concept of these to my wife but it wasn't until we were lucky to visit a State Park where the Tear Jerkers Liberty Bell Chapter folks were spending the weekend. We asked permission to photograph their TD's and spent over 3 hours with them while they explained their tears. They were very nice, a great bunch for sure.
It was either buy a new one, restore an old one (if I could find one) or build one from the ground up so the decision was to build one. One TD jumped out at me, it was on a different site, some folks were asking any info about it. I like the lines and shape so I emailed if I could obtain the dimensions. Hopefully I can draw some plans and start next spring.
I'm pretty handy building things but the electrical could be a problem.
There is a wealth of info here and I'm sure it will turn out fantastic. We're looking at a 5x10 to be pulled by pulled by a Honda Element. The galley will probably be designed to be a rolling soup kitchen, I was already asked by someone!
Someone said these trailers are an addiction, ours will probably be lettered "EASY DOES IT".

Thanks for what all of you have done,
John and Lynn

Welcome aboard, spend lots of time checking out the galley gallery and the hall of fame...there are tons of ideas out there, and no 2 tears are identical...Build what suits your needs, no real rules about it, just spend time thinking about what you want...it's a lot of work to build something that doesn't work for you, and unfortunately, a number of us will build another...a 12 step program is being developed for just such a crowd...most importantly, have fun! But the price to pay is that we do require pictures of what you are doing... :) Doug

Welcome to the teardrop world! I'm building a 10-foot trailer onto a Harbor Freight 4'x'8' trailer. You have an Element... I have a CRV. SAme difference! They are both limited to 1500 pounds (or so.) I expect mine will top out at about 600 or so unless I go crazy with the cabinets and such. Go for as big as you think you'll need since the labor is negligible. Good luck! --Vic

Hi,
The TD for my inspiration of the build comes from www.teardrops.net- Mysterious Teardrops #3. I like the flow of the lines and hope it can be transformed into a 5X10. This has been a busy summer painting everything outside so next spring and early summer will be my time to play.

hi john and lynn!

how great you got to see lots of teardrops and talk to owners. when we bought ours last sunday it was the first time we had seen them in person, even though we had bought supplies to build one years ago! they have their own mystical draw just in general!

for me it is terrific to find tear community who can understand and get excited for us and with us and offer so much information to help us. it is a very unique experience and it's so good to find people who get it!

look forward to "hearing" and seeing your joy take physical form! :vroom:

Hello and welcome!!!!

Until you actually start building, you are going to drive your self mad with Teardrops. Trust me, I did this :?

Make sure to print out a copy of the Generic Benroy build plans in the top menu. I t will help answer questions you might have on the building process.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

John and Lynn, you have come to the right place for teardrop info and helpful answers. Looks like you already have an idea what you hope to incorperate in your build. Good for you, that way you won't have to build a second one, which many of us have done. (You can't build just one!). Keep a pictorial record of your accomplishments, check out our many pics and ideas on the board and be sure to post those pics. We just love pics.

Roly, finished one, bulding another and sketching yet another.....when will it all end?
