Hello from Kansas

Postby lwbittle » Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:55 pm

I just finished making a 5 1/2 ft by 8 ft on a Harbor Freight trailer. I made my own plans and learned much since this was my first attempt at doing something like this. It would have been a help if I had found this site before I started. Except for a mistake in design here and there it seems to be ok.

After Labor Day and the campgrounds clear out we are going to give it a try.

lw, welcome to the board. Too bad you had not found us before your build. However, now that you are on board, check out the local gatherings and/or TD owners nearby. Enjoy your tear........and by the way, what improvements or additions are you planning for the next teardrop you build. Take some pics of your tear, we love pics, you know.

Welcome , and great to have another addition to our South Central group.
Where abouts in Kansas? Look under the Suggest a Gathering section, we're having a Nifty Fifty campout over north of Liberal at Lake Scott in a couple or three weeks !!!! And make plans to convoy and come to the big party at LCG at the end of October.

Hi all, I am just an old farm boy who moved to town. I am located just south of Wichita in a little town called Haysville (Pop. 11000). I unloaded the farm to a gullible Californian who didn't know that a hundred acres wasn't a ranch.....

I have wanted a tear for many years and thought I could find an old one in a tree row or something but it never happened. So I looked around a bit and tried it myself. I used lauan 4x8 sheets and placed it on a frame with double walls. The problem I had was that I let an inside lap and outside roof lap coincide on the same "rafter". Slight bow but seems sound.....

If this thing works, I probably won't do it a gain. It was fun but it got a little hot before I was done.

If and when I figure out how to post a picture, I will let you see my product. It is pretty plain Jane compared with what some of you have constructed but All I was after was something that I could hitch behind my little Cavalier....

I would like to make it to some of the gatherings.

Wayne

Im on my 2nd teardrop & 100th hot rod & ALL my blueprints have been in my head. (drives my enginer son in law nuts) I know what I want & what I want it to look like & I figure out how to make it work. A couple of projects have went to the scrap pile, and a couple turned out so ugly I wont admit to building them. Roger
