Greetings from Arkansas

Postby cfiles » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:18 am

Hello all, my name is Chad Files and I am an aspiring teardrop builder. I purchased the Kuffel Creek Cubby plans earlier this week and plan to start the build today.

I have a 4x8 trailer that was gifted to me a few years ago and I plan on using that as my base. Other than that I plan to stick with the plans as much as possible. I do plan on making some minor adjustments to the amenities but noting structural.

Is there anybody here from the Central Arkansas area? I would love to see one of these things up close before I start hacking away at it.

Nice to meet you all, I am sure I will be talking to you soon.

Chad,

Welcome to the board! I built a Cubby about 3 years ago. Feel free to have a look through my build and camping photos (link in my signature block). Anyway, you may want to consider making the front straight down without curving back any. This will allow you to use a 8' trailer without modifying the length at all. Most of all, have fun and take lots of pictures.

Welcome Chad! If you want to see some trailers in person try to come up to the Nevada, MO gathering on Dec 1st. You can get details about the site and who's attending on the South Central forum.

Thanks for the big welcome. I am checking with my wife right now about the Nevada, MO gathering. That is only ~4 hours from here. It would be really good to see a few campers before I get started.

I will also be putting together a build journal sometime today. I develop websites and software for a living, so it is only fitting that I build a website for the occasion.

Hi Chad, welcome to th' party ;) . I'm in Benton, guess you'd have to say that's in central Arkansas. My TD isn't a Cubby (or any other recognized style). Have had a couple of locals (weelllll, one from Benton, another from LR) come by to take a look. My album pretty well shows most of my build from the beginning. PM me if I can help or you'd like a look

I would love to but I am going to be high in the Ozarks with nothing but the stuff on my back this weekend.

Thank you for the offer. It really looks like I may make it to the Nevada, MO gathering. Of course I will be in a tent but that is better than nothing. I am also hoping to drop by Nobody's and see his in the next couple of weeks.

The first week or two of my build is going to involve getting my trailer in working order. So I have a little bit of time before I start being constructive.

Welcome to our South Central group Chad and by all means -- look at one or more in person, lift the hatch, lift the tongue, lay down in side, stand at the galley.... take pictures and ask questions.

I used the Kuffel Creek plans but pm me about some specifics. I would suggest you look at teh free plans on here and talk to some builders in person about some things that the KC plans don't really cover.

The beauty of the teardrops is that you can make it any way you want !!!

Good luck and come camping with us SOON!!!

Welcome! We are in the Rogers, AR area, and are planning to build "someday" - we have had the Kuffel Creek plans for a couple of years now, before some of the other plans were available here. I'm pretty new on this forum, too, but it surely has gotten my teardrop fever raised! If you make it to the Nevada gathering you won't be the only tenter - we are planning to be there unless my husband gets a last minute booking (fly fishing guide) so we will either be tenting or throw a mattress in the back of the pickup shell. Hope to see you there!

Welcome Chad ! ! !
I'm just south of SharonB in western central Arkansas south of I-40.
I'm will being getting ready to go to Nevada, MO also at the end of the month. Dragging something that looks like a trailer ( maybe looks like a U-Haul without colors ). HE HE HE.
Maybe with a paint job depending on the weather to prep and paint after the bondo job.
At least I hope it will be warm because it is insulated. :D
