Greetings from North Texas

Postby dmills » Thu Dec 13, 2007 1:23 pm

I am in Double Oak, Texas, which is in the DFW area. Having just sold my 1965 Silverstreak, I was starting to look for a vintage Airstream, but then reconsidered for a number of reasons. :o

So I am in the paper and pencil stage of planning a Teardrop. Probably on a 5x10 chassis. But I've never even seen a homebuilt in person. I've seen a few commercially mfg. units and have talked to the owners of those, but not any homebuilts. I have the skills needed and most of the tools. I am sorry now that I sold my MIG welder after my last Toyota Landcruiser project. Mostly, I have a lot of questions and ideas floating around at this point.

Are there any active homebuilders in the DFW area who would be willing to meet and show me their trailers? I would like to see how you did (whatever). Also, any input on the best local sources for materials (other than the obvious Home Depot, etc.) will be appreciated.

Thanks, Don.

Welcome Don. I can't help you in the DFW area but check out Rich's List, Vintage Plans & Trailer Tutorial at the top of this and every page. :D Danny

Welcome from Ft. Worth. Plywood Co. Of Ft. Worth is where I bought my plywood from. They have 3/4" 5x10 sheets of plywood. Good luck with your build.

Thanks for the welcome. And Woody, thanks for the info on the plywood supplier. All the local companies I have called so far have not been helpful. Two have promised to check their suppliers and call me back with info, but neither have called back. I'll try the Plywood Co. of Fort Worth tomorrow.

Sorry I missed the Ray Roberts get together. I stumbled across this site just a day or two too late.

Hi Don,

Welcome to the forum. Hope we can be of some help. Questions are usually answered correctly, most of the time, although there is sometimes a conflict of opinion.

Be sure and post pictures as you build.

See you around.
