Another Newbie from Idaho

Have been building a Cubby since November. Having fun and reading a lot on this site. Not so hot on computing or I would submit pics. I am almost ready to apply aluminum.

Welcome to the Forum, Clint. Looks like you are well on your way to having a finished product. Hmmm, covering with aluminum, huh. Oh well, wood looks good but metal is better. Remember, float that aluminum and secure it with the edge trim, I understand that if glued to the plywood, it might buckle with cold and hot temp changes. You gotta get some pics posted, and try to attend a gathering in your area. Again, good luck on your build, we'll be looking for some shots of your progress.

Roly...........PS, what size is your tear, what got you interested in TDs and how do you propose to use it when finished?

Clint, Welcome to the forum. Roly is "Right On" about floating that aluminum. Western temp changes can be very low to very high throughout the year. The expansion is really noticeable in the summertime. Have Fun!

I saw some new paint on the DIY TV show. It was Thomas Stainless Steel Paint. I wondered what it would look like on the top of my tear. I saw the 2 part kit at Home Depot for about $50 - there are rollers and the paint and clearcoat. It is water based. What are your thoughts?

To the playground Clint.

Pictures are easy and easier. To put in your personal album just resize to about 500 to700 and make sure they are jpg. Then go up to the Album in the menu, your personal gallery (about half way down, and upload. Now when you post just click on the picture you want to post, right click on the URL and copy. Come to the post a reply, click on Img, right click and paste, click on close tags.

You can also paste, highlight and click on Img.

The other way to do this is to open an account with a photo hosting online album. I use Photo bucket and it will resize my pictures for me.

Hi Clint,

Welcome to the forum. Pictures seem to be the hardest , but if you will look at the top of this page, there is a "Help with Photos" section, that should help you out. We will be looking forward to seeing yours.

See you around.

Hi Clint,

All the best with your build! The Cubby sheeted with aluminum is a great choice. See my album - I'm biased.

I installed the aluminum during the hottest part of the summer, and used a water based contact cement (Wilsonart from Home Depot) to hold the sheeting to the ply until the edge molding was installed to hold it permanently. Unlike the other contact cements, it's non toxic and non flammable - something to think about if you are applying it in a garage with gas furnace or gas water heater, or breathing the fumes in an enclosed space.
