Hello from Idaho

Postby James Ellington » Mon Feb 04, 2008 10:18 pm

Hello everyone,
Well lets see, I ran across this site last summer and have been checking it out on and off since. I've been wanting to get back into camping, stopped going regularly after I retired from the USAF in 2003. Anyway, I've just couldn't find the right trailer for me until recently. Thats when I found the Widget, I just love the way it flows.
So, I purchased a set of trailer plans from Northern Tools for a 5x10 trailer and am currently working on minor changes, like removing the side rails and ramp, from the design. Just have to decide weather to make the frame from steel or aluminum. I will be going off road just not 4 wheeling type off road. Will figure that out in a few weeks.
The way I look at it, I'm going to use the 'KISS' rule when building. I've gotten a lot of great advice from here without even asking. And with the electrical design done I'm now working on the cabinet design.
So as soon as I get the tractor/snow plow and big screen tv out of my garage I will commence the build on the frame. This will prob take me the better part of the spring and possibly into the fall to get the whole thing done but like the old saying goes, "good things come to those who wait" Or is it "If you don't find time to do it right the first time, then when will you find the time to do it again?"
What am I saying... I want it NOW!!! :)

Welcome James - I am a newbie too.
I don't have much need for a snow plow in Atlanta, but let me know if you need a place to store that big screen TV while you build ...... :D

Morning James,

I live just over the roof tops in Caldwell, so welcome in more ways than one.

Spring will happen some day, I am sure, meanwhile we are getting more snow this week end I hear.

Welcome James! There are some really good gatherings this Summer. You might want to let "want it NOW" push you toward an earlier completion of your project. Have Fun!

Thanks folks. Will have to get my stuff together for a few outings, even if it just tent camping. ;)
And might I just say, Roly Nelson... you have one Wicked Woody there. The details and workman ship are stupendious, especially the towbar and tow hook. I have not planed on putting that much detail into mine, guess I'll have to re think my interrior...

Hi James,

Welcome to the forum. Like Roly said look around, jump in and participate, and be sure and post pictures, when you start building.

See you around.

Pictures... pictures... pictures. I'll be working on a photo album of all the work I do so that the insurance company won't have anything to complain about. :R Also for posting on here, once I figure out where I can postem. Might set up my own little site just for that.

Hey James

Welcome to the forum. I am over here in the Rupert/Burley area. I built mine last year. Well i got it usable. Still a bunch to do on it this year. I also made mine for rough roads. It sets kind of high and looks dorky but it works. I made my tounge a single 2X3 just long enough so I can jack knife it 90 degrees. Works for me. I have pulled it about 1500 smiles so far and it does great. Have fun and see you around some campfire sometime. :D

Hey, Welcome must have been out of town. I missed you!

Lots of helpful info here:
http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=11199

You can put your pictures in you personal gallery here, see "Album" in the menu. Or get one of the picture hosting accounts like Photobucket. That is the only one I know cause I use it.

Look forward to seeing the pictures.
