Great forum here, with lots of good information. :)

Although we've been using dome tents for years without problem some of the areas where we camp have had increased bear encounters including several maulings and a recent death and I've been looking in at this forum over the winter with an idea of building something similar in the future for increased bear safety, at least at night.

This isn't exactly what I'm interested in building but here's a concept model that I saw on the net which is probably more for fabric molders but shows some good aerodynamics and volume reduction, about halfway down the page;

Here's another site showing interesting door and light weight acrylic window opening designs;

Image to the playground. Planning is half the fun so 8) We have had discussions about bears and the general consensus is that you still need to take the normal precautions since we have thin walls and are relatively small.

Enjoy the site and keep us in touch with your plan.

Welcome to the board, and you surely have an original idea, with a teardrop shaped completely like an egg. That's really thinking out of the box. I like it. Remember, the more round corners you have, the more difficult it is to find decent storage space, or even a mattress that fits your body (bodies?). Just ask an airstream owner who has to cut the back side of a cornflakes box to a shape of a half circle, just to fit into an upper cabinet.

Pre-planning and revising revised sketches and drawings is half of the fun. Good luck on your build and do take plenty of pics, you'll never have that chance again, once it is built.

Whoa !
Get out the paper mache and dribble some fiberglass.
That would turn some heads.

How aerodynamic is an egg , Andrew ?
