Introduction Faux Pas From Colorado

Postby Malabar85 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 4:50 am

I was so excited about getting infomation, I failed to properly introduce myself. Newbie mistake numero uno. So, just wanted to say, Greetings from Northeastern Colorado. I have been planning, unplanning, and replanning my TD (in my head, of course) for years; and now my time has come. Just found this site and can't stop reading! Looking forward to bending ears.

Newbie
Welcome to the forum. You are going to love all the great info and the people here. I just finished my Homebuilt and plan on using her this weekend. Smart to plan her for a while before you jump in building. But once you start you get hooked. The wife keeps thinking about things she wants to do to it. Ha or shes going to have me do.
Good luck and have fun,
Bill :applause:
Hope to see you on the road.

Yes welcome !

Ah the little woman. We are heading to a gathering Oct 16th so of course we have to redecorate.

A halloween theme!

Halloween hand towels for curtains and a BOO welcome mat and spider string lights. Ah but that's half the fun. So get movin' if you make a few mistakes on the first one so what it's just practice for the second one anyway

Just a heads up on building...it's been tough to find the materials in Colorado. I had to do a lot of ordering on-line. :hammer: :shake hands:

What sort of materials?

Postby Malabar85 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 9:15 pm

I have been web searching for things I would consider unusual, like sheet aluminum, and yes, a local supplier is not available. I did locate regional, but the shipping is twice the price of the material itself, so I am still shopping. I have found retailers or wholesalers for most of the materials, so I am curious as to the difficulties you were running into. To say that I'm ignorant to the possible downfalls of construction would be the understatement of the year. I tend to view cost and time the same way I think of home improvement; multiply everything by 2.5 then add a month and another hundred bucks. But then again, I can't make dinner without going over budget - mostly because I love adding that little extra something. My fear is that a little extra on my camper will amount to gobs of cash.......... but then again, I'd just spend it elsewhere anyway. So if you have any insights on materials purchases, or links to material supply outlets, please post them. Thanks to all for the warm welcome.
Ask not what your country can do for you; they're already behind on their bills and next month ain't looking any better.

Marlabar85,
I live in Pennsylvania but I found my sheets of Aluminum at a Tractor Trailer Parts supply Co. If you have such a company in your area may be worth checking into.
Just an idea,
Bill
Hope to see you on the road.

Malabar, The challenge of design is to strike a balance between simplicity versus comfort & convenience. Put in the features you really need, but keep it fairly simple. As you use the tear you will see things that can be revised or added. Part of the fun for me is making improvements later. My main recommendation is to go with a five foot wide body. Four feet is simple, but really cramped for two adults. Your wife will thank you for the extra room in a five footer!

Welcome Malabar 85!!!

If you want to come look at some terrific teadrops.... there is a gathering Sept 25-28th called "The Last Gasp of Summer 2008". It is being held at the Royal Gorge Campground, by Canon City, CO....

We usually have 20-30 teardrops and totally awesome people. Look at the threads in the Colorado section and if you have any questions, PM me or email me at [email protected].

We love to show off and help you see the differences.... Hope to see you!

Good idea, Pam. Come & see other trailers. :pinktear:

Out near Ft. Morgan are some various trailer places. We got a few things at Redneck Trailer in Firestone/Frederick. There is a Lil'Guy dealer at Ft. Collins for other ideas.

:hammerhead: You are welcome to come & look at our build. It's pretty heavy, but in our case size matters. Feel free to PM me for my phone number and I'll give you directions. We are by Kersey.
