Still a wannabe but getting closer

Postby TDWannabe » Fri Nov 21, 2008 7:05 pm

Hi all!!!

Don't own a teardrop yet but have wanted one as long as I can remember! A relative had one when I was small and we saw it often on family get togethers. The last time I saw it, it was in the back of someone's barn and no one had an interest in it. When my own children were grown I tried to hunt it down but to no avail. Even the barn is gone! And no one seems to recall what happened to it. I'm sure it would have been great fun to restore! I will probably never build one but I will be keeping my eyes open to buy a used one and maybe modify it to my desires if need be. In the meantime, this forum is wonderful for photos, advice, plans, ideas and just plain fun! After lurking for awhile, thought I'd say hi!

A little background info on us. Transplanted from Iowa to Florida and loving it. Economy is forcing the both of us into new careers. His is gardening for a resort and mine is returning to school for practical nursing. We're not fancy. Just plain folk.

Nice to meet you all!

Jacqui & Jason :shake hands:

Welcome to the forum. To help you in your quest for a teardrop you can keep an eye on the For Sale section here and Teardrops.net & Teardrop Exchange. :) Danny

Thank you Danny!

I will keep an eye out! And if everything works out, I will be able to keep an eye out for some of the campers I see on here! Wish me luck!

Building is so much fun and you really can learn you go. Just think of this forum as your online school! You can get photos and instruction on every aspect of building from this site. People with all levels (and no levels) of skill have built successfully.
Just something to consider.

I'm Building this winter

Postby Wanderer34 » Wed Nov 26, 2008 12:12 am

I built a trailer frame for a custom drop 8 years ago but got side-tracked by election to Cmdr. of my American Legion Post...for five years... In the mean time I used the trailer to carry the honey-pot to Post functions & events. It was a must for the Ladies. And for a drop I made do with my old Venture craft Motorcyle tent trailer. Well the canvas is rotting out and gas is too expensive for the Southwind motorhome and the Ford towing the Wanderer 34' fifth wheel, so I'm re-awaking my Teardrop dream. I've spent hours exploring this and other sites while putting the designing finishes to my new dream drop. I look forward to documenting my progress and receiving good advise from those who have gone before.

Welcome to the forum Steve & Kathy, you should start your own thread under "newbies, introduce yourself" so you get the proper recognition. Ah Lakeside, I remember it well. The ex-in-laws lived off Lakeshore Drive many moons ago. Is the "Wagon Wheel" still there? Quite a roudy place from what I've heard. I'm assuming a "drop" is a teardrop. Sounds like you've got the chassis and licensing tasks taken care of and now on to building the teardrop. Keep us updated with pictures. :D Danny
