Welcome Roghodge

Greetings from the other side of the big pond. From the Far Nort, Country of Finland.

You know that once youve checked in you can never leave or checkout. The teardrop building becomes more and more addicting as you build. And of course there is no cure.

So you being a therapist/psychologist and all. There,s plenty of us here with this addiction who may need your help.   It just seems to deepen as you go along.

You also have an excellent group of builders in your area as well. To give you on hand assistance in your build if needed Im sure.

Be looking forward in watching your progress. Meanwhile enjoy this International Group here. You,ll enjoy it. I know I have.

Best regards from all of us here in Scandinavia.

Rog, the east county of San Diego could mean anywhere from the Salton Sea to Blythe. If you live anywhere near Plaster City, you are less than 2 hours from my place, so come on by. Around here, we consider San Jose to be in central California. Nevertheless, I'm afraid there may not be many teardroppers east of the Salton Sea, and I hope someone near you reads this post and gives you a hollar. Seeing and exploring an actual teardrop trailer is so much more informative than looking at pictures.

You might post a note in the General Discussion section to see if a tear owner is anywhere near you. I know you have read a bunch of our posts, so you know we are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in your build. You could even plan on a name for your rig that has something to do with rockets, since they all have to have a name...........Oh yes, "The Rocketear" is already taken by a guy way up in "central Calif".

Once again thanks to all- I’m beginning to understand how a person could get sucked into this cyber world “no honest dear- they are real people”
Classicfin may be right you check in but don’t check out- either a roach motel or hotel California- not sure which? And he plays a harp- isn’t a harp a bit large for a teardrop?!? Perhaps harp is Scandinavian for harmonica
I guess I’m overly sensitive about personal matters- I’m in El Cajon, a suburb of San Diego- 20 min east or so
Roly I’d love to make a trip up to see your stuff- you are not that far north
Danny-I think I will need the table- sometimes the wind really whips up scary dust storms in the desert- last October we spent two days eating dirt confined to the front of a jeep Cherokee- all the ez-ups blew away if they weren’t seriously tied down- Oh yea I have a brother in Springfield Mo (I went to high school in Clever) who is an accomplished welder- he might be up for some side work if needed.
I'll post pics when I figure it out
For those who would like to have a look I have a build journal and covet your feedback.

Rog, There's at least 3 San Diego teardroppers on this forum that maybe they would let you come by and see their rigs. I worked in El Cajon and Santee Cabinet shops near the airport for many years so I'm very familiar with Anza Borrego & Imperial San Dunes conditions. Wasn't too fond of camping in places like Coyote Creek, Buttercup etc. Had the painted Chevy logo sandblasted off my hubcaps once. One of my favorite primitive camping spots just up Hwy 80 from you, is Kitchen Creek (road). I think you'd enjoy seeing Roly's two trailers. His place is pretty easy to find and he's a great host  . Danny

What’s in a name?
Plenty- I’ve seen the ‘rocketear’ Very cool and I would steal the idea if I were that type of fellow. Roly may be right though I need a name for my project. So…

While in the shower, I get my best thinking  done in the shower, the name came to me. Since my family and I are Disney fans I thought…

wait for it…

The Mouseka-tear! :applause: :applause:

I know that an extra week in purgatory will be reserved for me because of the picture but it’s an idea

If anyone has heard of or seen anything like this please let me know- I do NOT want to ditto anothers work  - unique is cool

Haven't seen another TD like your design. However Carol has a Mouse ka tear or something very similar. She has a T@B and won't care if they are very close in name. She is a micky mouse fan.........

Also sdtripper2 is in the San Diego area too, I think. He is an admin here so finding him might be easy.

And the 12 step program is only a temporary fix till the next build. Fighting is useless and giving in very satisfying.

for what it's worth the pic above is VERY rough and mostly colors to help support the disney theme idea ;)
If that were actual "design" I would be justifiably banned forever. :R
I think I have introduced myself and some thoughts. Perhaps it's time to beg for design ideas in a new thread :worship:

So Doc,
You say you wanna keep it cheap, but also mention that you've got OCD.
That could be a problem...
Perhaps you could just get obsessed with the keeping it cheap part?
Yeap we're real people and I say get signed up for a gathering and meet some of us ASAP, even if it's before you start your build. You will meet the nicest folks and you won't go hungry, I can assure of that.
Just so you know... Laying awake in bed at night for hours on end designing your build in your mind's eye is normal, nothin' to worry about.
Welcome and have FUN!!!
BTW- The coolest T-Shirt I've ever seen was at a rocket club meet.
Solid black with the phrase, "...As a matter of fact, I am a rocket scientist."
PS- I'll vouch for Doug.

Postby John T. Hodgen » Thu Jan 08, 2009 11:01 am

hey there,
welcome to the forum. I bought my trailer at TSC for 299.00-4x8 with no floor-since I didn't register it then and there I paid 276.00 and registered it later. So far, I have about 1100.00 in it but Ive gone perrty overboard on some things. I could have built it for cheap but Momma wanted it Nice. http://s215.photobucket.com/albums/cc145/panheadjohn60/ pictures of my build are here. I have a total of 3 months in it but the winter cold has slowed progress. Enjoy your buld and get use to going to the box store often. By the was your last name isn.t Hodgen is it, if so, we're kin some how do to not many in the US.   :? :x all emotions you'll find during your build 8)

After a week from heck :x I’m back- for now-
I have been playing with design and trailer foundation thoughts- I checked out a pop-up Image for possible foundation. I think it would be more work than it’s worth. I think I shall begin a ‘member designed’ thread and beg for input from all you fine folks.
BTW I defend my dissertation Feb- 13th (Friday) Those who pray are asked to do so at that time.
Here is a profile I’m playing with
