Greetings from Reno

Postby High Desert » Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:58 pm

Just want to say hello to everyone and send out a thanks to the folks that run and moderate this great forum. Like many I have been lurking for a while and have decided it was time to join up.

Very inspiring stuff, I think a tear is in our future. My wife and I are long time campers, but with the kids grown and the price of fuel our big trailer and full size pickup aren't seeing much use these days. A teardrop looks like a great solution to get us back on the road. I'm looking forward to learning more and hopefully building one of our own someday soon, and maybe even contributing something here eventually.
Shaun

High Desert,
Welcome to the forum. We were in the same boat. Loved Camping but with the gas prices gone nuts we saw the special on the Travel Channel, RV Crazy that showed Teardrop Campers and that was it the wife was hooked. So the brother inlaw and I started our build. I retire in 8 months and thats when we were supposed to have "The Sponge" (thats her name) finished but I guess we got in a big hurry. So she was completed last summer. I still have a few things I want to do to her but I will soon have the time.
Good luck to you and have fun w/ your build,
 Bill and Marijo
Hope to see you on the road.

Local!

Postby nevadatear » Wed Apr 08, 2009 6:30 pm

Hey, a semi local. We live in Lovelock and have been buidling our trailer for about 6 months. We are hoping for a memorial day finish. We are headed out to Austin this weekend where there is a gathering of teardrops camping to get some ideas and meet some of the great folks on this forum. If you haven't already got your weekend planed, you so go visit too. You can make it a day trip, Austin's only abou 2 hours from Fallon, about three hours from you, closest you'll get to a bunch of them around here.

Image to the playground HD. :D Do you have a first name? Have you had time to pick a style or profile?

There is nothing like seeing a Teardrop in person, and some at the gathering are really special. If you get a chance do go out and enjoy the day or weekend. Enjoy

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Bill- hope to do something soon as time and $$ allow. I especially like the paint job on yours.

Debbie & Randy- Wish I didn't have to work this weekend, I'd like to get out to Austin. Sounds like fun, Austin is an interesting place. Maybe we'll bump into each other down the road. Your build is looking good!

Miriam- it's Shaun. Haven't decided on anything for sure but right now the Benroy looks promising and not too challenging for a first build. I'm more of a metal worker than wood so I'll need to practice my carpentry a bit, if you know what I mean. Light will be important as the tow rig will be less than 90HP.

dread- this is giving me something to look forward to. Teardrop camping seems to be something special unto its self.

and now, off to read a few hundred threads and search the HUGE gallery of ideas :D

Hi from south west Ohio. We purchased our teardrop in Reno several years ago while there for Hot August Nights. We plan to be there again this year.

They're popular with the hot rodders for sure, always see some nice tears during H.A.N. 8)

You guys driving out all the way from Ohio or using other means of transport?

Shaun, you have been bitten bad, and that's a good thing. Get that teardrop on the road and you will find friends and experiences you never had with your prior camping adventures. Teardroppers are a special breed, and just think, you are about to become one too. Welcome!

Wanted to drive out and pull the tear but the car isn't going to be finished. So we will fly out and stay with relatives in Sparks. Maybe we'll see ya there?

Howdy back down to Cajun country!

Roly, your wood craftmanship leaves me speechless. Your tear is beyond amazing. :applause:

Larry & Jill, I should be around most of that week. May have to go tear searching to see what came in behind the hot rods 8)

I am going to have to get some projects finished and get some stuff sold to help finance all these ideas I'm getting hanging around here. Sooo many great ideas out there. But DW and I are starting to sort out what we think might work for us. That should only change 50 or 60 more times before we actually start building one

John T - after looking at your pics, I'd say Costa Lotta was a bargain. You do very nice work, with some cool inovations.

Inspiring indeed! :applause: I hope we can do as well for anywhere near that price range.
