Overdue hello from Michigan

Postby coostv » Sun Apr 19, 2009 9:25 pm

I thought for sure I had posted here before. I went and posted a question in the CAD section and as it turns out it was my first post and I joined over 2 years ago! I have been on here more than I care to admit over the last couple years but due to this or that I never posted.

Anyway.... I live just north of Grand Rapids, MI. We have had a pop up and a 26' hybrid travel trailer (of which we sold last year). I have enough hobbies and side work to keep me busy, which is probably the main reason I have held off building any sort of tear or small trailer for myself. I eluded to my plan in my CAD post but I left out details.

I am going to build a utility trailer in the next few weeks (once my truck is back on the road and I can pick up steel). My plan is to use the utility trailer frame and construct a slide in camper to keep the functionality of the utility trailer. I was going to build 2 trailers (and I think I posted that in the other section not thinking) but I have this idea I would like to at least give a shot to save on cost seeing as I want both. I am still trying to grasp the 3D modeling so I do not have a design put to print (or pixels), I also usually engineer from the seat of my pants, so this will be completely new to me. I will also be doing so on a rather frugal budget as I will be entering college after a 18 year hiatus. I'd really like to see a basic shell come together this summer before school starts, but reality may be a different story. This will be the first full summer we have not camped in 6 years. We sold the hybrid last summer to rid ourselves of the debt and in retrospect it was the best move we could have made in getting rid of the payment.

I, like many, lost my job this past December and will probably not be called back seeing as I was downsized and the position was permanently eliminated. This is okay though, I had been contemplating a career change for the last 8-10 years, but was secure in knowing I had a job to go to. I am an engineer at heart, I will probably avoid the field, but will pick up a class or two for personal interest.

So, who am I and why am I here.... Good question, I ain't got that figured out either!! Just kidding, sort of. I am currently working a temp supervisor job in a manufacturing environment (when the build ends so does my job), I am a husband, father of 4 (15f, 15m, 12f, and the caboose 9f), there is much humor in our house usually sparked by a sarcastic comment from me  . Why did I wait 2 plus years to make a post? I dunno, I suppose I like the lurker status and did not want to ruin that feeling.

Well that is me in a nutshell.

Welcome

Postby Linda Johnson » Thu Apr 23, 2009 10:37 pm

Hi,
Welcome from another newbie and a couple of former Michiganders! :D My husband and I just joined a few weeks ago and we've been waiting for the weather to cooperate so that we can camp. We are from the Belding/Greenville area, but are now living in Missouri. We're looking forward to our vacation this summer as we will be making our way to Mackinaw and other places we love. :applause: Once again, WELCOME to the club.
