Just thinking

Postby sschevel » Sun May 31, 2009 8:30 pm

I have the HF 4X8 trailer and was thinking to using a 2X4 to create a base (with some storage space and go 5X9 with the extra length up over the tongue.
Sure it is not ideal but it would allow for a queen and some storage space between the 4X8 trailer bed and the Tear.

My current HF trailer is for the motorcycle but I now have 2 bikes so I need a new trailer for them. If I convert this trailer for a tear I have a better excuse to purchase a larger trailer for the bikes.

The 2X4 will get the trailer up over the wheels and the foot forward gets the wheels "more" to the back like they should be without having to modify the trailer. (which I do not have the ability to do here where I live anyway)

Has anyone created a 5X9 on a 4X8 trailer? Or even a 5X10?

Just some thoughts while I read about these guys and start to develop how I would attack this situation.

Thanks
Guy

Do yourself a big favor and reinforce the tongue mine flexes enough to make me a bit nervous. No problems yet but I hope to get this change done this summer.

Thanks again Harvey for the idea and the pic.

Image to the playground Guy. If you are starting out with 2x4's then do reinforce the tongue. Now Bob's TD is big and loaded so you can always try for lighter.. 8)

If we can help just ask. The only price is :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: to keep Aunti's bubble oil centered. :?

I have a 3/4 plywood sheet on the trailer now and it appears that a 2X4 box that is the 5' 7" X 10' would not even touch the tongue if there was another sheet of plywood on top of the square as shown in the top photo.

I suppose that I would remove the sheet on the trailer now then a new sheet on the 2X4 would rest on the tongue at the front but it may not reach the frame of the trailer over the "sleeping" area.

Course I have it folded and out of the way right now so I am just eye balling this assumption.

If I added the square tongue "add on" to lengthen the tongue a bit I could see moving the box forward more and less toward the rear so that the wheels would appear more toward the back and not centered (as the tear drop should be and look anyway).... So 1' 6" forward and only 6" extension on the rear. This moves the rear wheels "back" 6 inches.

All speculation and planning.
