Willing to work and learn!

Postby shortgmanp » Wed Sep 16, 2009 7:05 pm

I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Fisherville, Ky. and am married with 2 beautiful daughters. The youngest one is in college now so I figured it was time to start traveling more. I was searching for a pop up when I ran across an article on teardrops. I have been researching and have decided that I want to build one. My wife and I have always tent camped and we believe this will move us up alittle without giving up the pleasures of a true camping experience. I will post pics as soon as I have time and figure out how. I am not a stranger to building things, so I do not believe this is above my ability. I have built the home I live in and have fixed up and sold several more. I know I will have alot to learn about teardrops so please be patient with me if I ask a stupid question. Thank You much Greg Prater.
I am a workaholic that loves a good challenge. It will also give my dad and me a good project to work on together. I plan on putting several miles on this teardrop, so I want to build it right.

Hey, Welcome Aboard from Asheville, NC!

I too, found this site, while googling for pop-ups! This is a great group and a fun hobby. I think mine is probably about 2/3rds done now. Any questions you have will get answers here. Be sure to share pictures!

Welcome!

I was a backpacker and tent camper all my life, and just got a bit too old for sleeping on the ground. A teardrop was the next logical step for me, and I love it.

My TD is pretty minimal -- almost like tent camping. You can get as fancy as you want, or do a very basic TD if, like me, you still want that tent-camping feel, but off the ground with a comfortable bed.

I have been learning from all the experienced TD camper builders on this site. I learned quickly that I had made a mistake. So, I sold the handmade trailer I had purchased and am ordering a trailer from Red Trailers or Nothern tool. I do not want any problems with registration or licensing. I also mentioned it to my father and he is excited about building this camper with me. He is almost 70 and loves working with wood. To me doing this project with my dad is the best part of it. I want to do this right, so I downloaded the generic Benroy plans and will be using them as a guide. I will change several things, but it will be a good outline for me. As soon as I am organized we will start the build. I will try to have a build journal. Thank You Greg P
