Planning my teardrop - hi from outback Australia

Postby indigirl » Mon Nov 16, 2009 5:58 am

Hi.. i live in the outback and frequently travel to dog shows. I have been looking for something that is better than a tent but not as big as a caravan and is not made of canvas. I discovered teardrop trailers!

I am in discussions with a guy who builds teardrops, he is going to design a dog box, a insulated dog compartment that can go on the drawbar, and can comfortably carry 2 large dogs,or 1 large dog and a number of smalls, or a lot of small dogs.

I have yet to see anything like this here in Oz, tho there maybe something similar out there in a different part of the country. There is going to be swinging mesh dividers in the dog box that will allow me to vary the number and size of the dog bays.

Does anyone else have a teardrop with this kind of setup? Would be interested in any advice/suggestions.

cheers :)

Welcome. Will the dogbox be cooled mechanically in any way?

Welcome indigirl, As your receive plans and ideas from the teardrop builder you are working with, post them here if possible and we can all decide by committee.

(I'm not sure if that's help or a warning).

Hi the dog box will have two whirly birds on the roof, plus vents in the doors to keep the interior cool when driving. I am waiting on a price for an aircon fitted to the roof for cooling when stationary. Would also need to work out a way to close off the vents etc in the dog box to allow the aircon to work efficiently.

The interior will be waterproof too so i can throw bags of ice in with the dogs on hot days. Its amazing how much difference that makes! Also the dogs all have cool coats that I wet down at every stop when travelling in the heat.
