Hi I've been lurking here for some time. You guys have a great site with awesome info. I'm starting my plans for a build. I have to apologize, as much as I like the Tears for style, I need a trailer I can live in ie: stand up. So here are my preliminary plans.

Thanks for all of your help so far and letting me share.
Terry

Welcome

Postby Wild Bill » Thu Feb 04, 2010 1:22 pm

Welcome to the group, I am also building a "Standee". I have been around for a couple of years and they have not tossed me overboard yet. I too see the need to stand up and be able to get dressed etc out of the weather. I love the tear shape and basic design also but it just will not work for me. When you get old and have eaten too much peach cobbler as they say here, it is too hard to crawl in and out of a sleeping cubicle. I would need the entire side to gull wing so I could get in!!! Welcome and good luck with your build. There are many many great people on this forum with years of conbined knowledge and building experience. I have learned lots and know you are in the right place. Bill

Hi Bill, thanks for the welcome. I checked out your album, that's quite a trailer (how big?). I like the stabilizer jacks and the dutch ovens. Do you have a scheduled completion? I'm just starting so it's drawings, research and list. Thanks again Terry

Hey Jeremy, I can't upload my CAD drawings because the files are .tcws I tried changing them to DXL but I can't figure out how to save them as either a .jpg .png or .gif

Thanks for trying Terry

Welcome, #23! (...couldn't resist!)

If you can print your CAD drawing on 8x11 paper and you have a scanner, you can scan it into your computer as a jpeg picture, reduce the size, and upload it to your galley album. That might be a reasonable, low-headache way to do it. I do some of my input that way. :)

or if you have a windows based machine - hit the print screen button (usually found in the same row as the "F" keys) this will copy the screen to the clipboard - then past in a paint program then export to a JPEG format

Don't you have an 'export' feature? That should alow you to export it as a different format.

I have an older version of TurboCAD but try this:

Under "File" click "Save As"

a) The small window will ask your file destination "Save in"
b) It will ask you to give the file a name
c) Then open the "Save as type" drop down menu by clicking the "V" symbol at the end. You should find the JPG option.

Works for me.

Wow! you guys have given me a lot of options. They sound great but I'll have to research them. For right now I think scanning is the fastest and then I'll try the rest. Should have some pictures soon.

Thanks for all your help,

Terry

First attempt at putting a pic in

Postby tsmiley23 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 4:02 pm

So here's my trailer. I bought it in 92' and have used it hard in my work (Slate roofing) ever since. It's taken some real abuse. It is a 5' x 10' 3500 lb trailer with electric brakes and a worn out wood floor. I'm going to take out the floor and remodel the frame to 79" x 120" and turn it into a standy.

And here's my vision:

Is the entry door on the back or side or both? What's your plan for the inside?

entry door

Postby tsmiley23 » Sun Feb 07, 2010 8:28 am

Hi Sharon, I don't quite have that figured out. I'm sure it will only be one door, but I haven't got the most efficient location worked out in my head. To make matters worse I found a free Turbo cad program on this site and I'm trying to learn it at the same time I design this trailer. I'm having a ball but it just seems like I don't have enough time in my days. :hammerhead: That's really funny because I'm retired and there's no one pushing me.

So how's that for the simple question of where's the door?

This site is a great help and I'm chewing on it, I'm really excited to begin but I'm savoring the process. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your interest, Terry

Terry...

You are building on the exact same frame I built " The Barn" on . If you haven't seen it look thru the tiny houses section in the thread "tiny barn" This build went real sweet and was campable in 5 weekends of hard work. It shares many of the ideas you are trying for. Lots and lots of pics in my album too. Hope they will help.

How about a caboose we need a caboose on the forum just so we can be different. :D
