Hi Hacksaw welcome to the group! I'm about 40 mins. south of Springfield just outside of Hartford. There are quite a few teardroppers in Mass. as well as the rest of New England. I'm sure some of them will chime in soon. One of the directors of the New England Chapter of Tearjerkers lives in Mass. His name is Barry....Watch out for him!! Now that you've joined the forum hopefully we'll get to meet up with you at a gathering soon. Don't forget to show us pictures of your trailer or your build!

This an interest I've had for awhile,want to build a teardrop or have to because I'm 6'7" tall.Was looking for someething to tow with a car,have seen some great ideas out here.Have some skill but would love to talk to some builders,owners.Thanks for the reply.

Hacksaw - now that you're on the forum be prepared for the addiction to take hold! Take some time to read through the build journals to see what people have done with their tds. Give folks a little bit more info on what your ideas for your build are, what your camping style is, and what your needs are. Throw it all out there and you will get tons of great info. The people on this forum are awesome and share a tremendous wealth of knowledge on all things teardrop. You should also try to go to a gathering or two. You will get to check out some really nice tds and ttts up close and "in the wild". You'd be amazed at the ideas you will get. There will be a bunch of gatherings coming up in the spring and summer that aren't that far from you. Throw your tent in the car and go to one. You don't have to have a teardrop to go to a gathering. Just be ready to have some fun and meet some really great people. Good luck with your build!

Hello, I'm from Fitchburg, after watching the RV crazy movie, got the bug and spent more than a few months reading all the postings here. Built a woody tear, I used a pop up frame. My tear is 5' x 9'3", used 2 thicknesses of 1/8" outside, and 1/8" inside and on the roof. If you need some help with construction, let me know, my shop is always open.

Thanks(I'm guessing it's Dave)I've seen so many great ideas out here I'm about to put pencil to paper.Your detentions sound about right for me I need about 7'6"to be comfortable when I'm lying down as mt feet hang over my 7' bed.I think I can deal with the 4' height,although I have considered marine ply at 5' by up to 14' big $ though.Thanks again.folks do call me hacksaw(Ralph)

Hacksaw, if money is no object, than you can't go wrong with marine plywood. However, then you won't have any insulation, going with a 3/4 to 1" framing, gives you space for insulation and wires. Then using 1/8" plywood gives you the benefit of light weight construction. I went with 2 layers of 1/8", top was walnut and baltic birch, I glued these two woods to a bottom layer of luan. If you want 10' long or 5' high, this system of glue up gives you a solid exterior, you cover up with CPES and spar varnish. Good luck
