Hi all,
Any suggestions about having a teardrop with three kids? We absolutely LOVE teardrops. My husband and I were thinking of getting one. I'm hoping that he'll build one as he is a great woodworker. We could have the kids sleep in it when we go camping.

Someday when they're older we will have it to ourselves. Does that make sense or should we just wait until they grow up more? We absolutely don't want a big RV. We have a Subaru Forester that perhaps we could have room for a few to sleep in. I like the idea of the hard-sided shelter when we camp in bear country. We are currently tent campers.

So how old are your kids? To answer you correctly, it would help to know.

They are 12, 7, & 3. We didn't do a very good job of spacing, but we are finally diaper-free

When I was tent camping, the last tent I used an SUV tent. It fit onto the back of my SUV so I had mostly a non-tent sleeping room that might work for the kids... If you are interested, just google SUV tent.

How about a teardrop with a side tent attached, must be some info on them somewhere here

Our kids (two boys one girl, two tents) had their own tent once they graduated from our large one (pretear). They wanted to be as far from us as the camp site would allow. A decent four person tent will be ideal and allow for the most flexibility and does not need to be attached though a common tarp is probably wise. Subaru at one point had a tent that attached to the rear of an Outback or Forester which would be another alternative or just let them sleep in the car.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I will check into them. It's nice to hear that there are other folks out there who have had teardrops with kids too.

Another question. Does anybody own a woody teardrop in the Northeast without being able to garage it? How well does it fare in the four seasons and will some form of annual maintenance prevent rotting?
