What has Tom been up to?

Postby Tom7707 » Tue May 18, 2010 8:16 pm

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I posted any more information about the tear drop I'm building. I wish I could tell everyone about the experiences that building your own tear drop brings. To bring everyone up to speed, I built a 2"x2' frame last Fall with a Dexter axle. I have been working on the shell at this time. Nothing like building a teardrop to show you the areas where you can improve on. Here is my frame that I built.

Here is the shell that I've got done so far. More work than I expected.

I am hoping to have it have it done this summer some time. (My wife would like to use the garage again someday). I had a friend help me set the walls and now he and his wife are collecting parts to build one for themselves. These things do grow on you.

Later, Tom in Mooresville, Indiana
I was pure as the driven snow, but some where I drifted.

Looking good Tom.
Don't worry about the time it's taking, that's why we call it teardrop time :)

Welcome Tom :shake hands: from a fellow Hoosier

Looking good you'll be camping in no time there's no hurry.
Keep an eye on the midwest section we've got some good gatherings coming up this year including one at Spring Mill this weekend with about 40 campers. If you find yourself needing some time away you should head down for a visit.

Throw a tarp over that puppy and get down to Mitchell, IN this weekend or you will miss out on one hell of a great gathering.

At least stop by for a visit. Potluck dinner is at 6 pm on Saturday and you and yours are welcome !

Tom

A Tear is never really done, as many here can attest to, just get'er weather tight and campable, continue with the details when your not out camping, heck every gathering you goto you'll comeback with a change or two you'd like to incorporate, if ya can say, "heck it's not done anyway" making changes are much easier......

My wife and I are planning to be at Mitchell this weekend. We would like to get a few ideas for our teardrop. we are also bring another couple with us who after helping me with a few heavy lifting jobs on mine has started gathering parts to build one also. I think your right, you are never done building one. I would be willing to bring it down this weekend however, my trailer has not been plated yet and no wiring has been installed. I've been following my theory that "one can not build a bad tear drop" I might have a few surprises along the way but that's the fun of building these I think. Maybe next gathering I'll have it done and we will bring it out camping. I do have a question about interior lighting. Not sure how much to install or really need. I'm thinking about using replacement license plate lights I found at Advance auto. They have a nice little fixture and several shapes. what have you guys used in the past?

It might be best to re-ask your question in the electrical section to get more opinions and advice.

Welcome from the Wet Coast!

Having attended my first gathering earlier this month, I can tell you this . . .GO!!!

So many kewl ideas; I wasn't planning on a tear for a few more years, but after seeing all the different ideas; I've moved the build forward.
