1952 Hudson Hornet with 1959 King Richard. I'm new to the forum. I've got four Hudsons and this is my first teardrop. Nice match but I now looking for an original Ken-Skill teardrop as it has a few inches more in length for sleeping as I'm 6'4. I live in Los Angeles area. Nice to meet everyone. Niels

Hi Niels,

Nice King Richards... Can you share some more pictures with us? All of us Generic Benroy builders would love to see them.

As I'm sure you already know, the King Richards was the later version of the Benroy.

If you can, lots of interior and exterior pictures... and tell us about the history of your trailer too!

thanks,

mike...

Welcome to the wacky world of teardrops. I hate to burst your bubble but even though the Kenskill is a foot longer than the King Richard, the sleeping area is the same. You would have to modify it as you would the K.R. to add more room. But it can be done.

I"ll post some more pic's when I get them. I had read on "Nick's Teardrop" website that the Ken-skill had a few more inches in sleeping room. If not, then how about the "Modernistic" teardrop? I like the shapes of both of those. I suppose I could modify mine for more leg room if necessary but thought a different model with needed sleeping porportions made sense.

As far as my King Richard, I've only had it for about three weeks. Previous owner put in new wood sides and floor. It was reskined it with the original aluminum skin. Spent alot of time polishing it and repainted the trim. I could polish it to a higher level but I like the patina where it is now... looks great but you can still tell it is vintage. I bought it to go to car shows but I'd like to do some camping aswell.

Any info and opinions on if the Ken-skill or modernistic (or similarly shaped vintage model that has more sleeping length would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a 1948 Modernaire which has a front cabinet built in. The length from the front cabinet doors to the rear bulkhead is 76".

If you got a Cub without a front cabinet the length from the rear bulkhead to the front skin is about 88" at approximately 4" above the floor.

So without the front cabinet the curved front of the Cub/Modernistic would allow for more sleeping space.

Keep in mind that a standard double or queen mattress is only about 75" long. You could have foam custom cut to just about any dimension.
