Hi all, found this site a couple days ago and just wanted to say hi. I'm really wanting to build a teardrop but not sure where to start. Can someone give some advice? Also is there anyone close to western Ky I could get in touch with?

thanks, Brian

Hi Brian, welcome to the most helpful trailer forum on the internet. First of all, you want to check out the Hall of Fame, (in the upper left of the page) Where scores of trailer styles are pictured. Many have links to their construction pics. Then try to decide what length, width and style you would like to have. Finances, building space and proper tools are another consideration. Never mind about not ever having built anything bigger than a bird house, most anyone can construct a teardrop, we even have a gal in High School who has built one.

Next, there are a number of teardrop building sites, right here on this board. Look them over, make notes and if you are into it, make a scale model out of cardboard (one inch equals one foot), and see if it suits your fancy. Most builders are really committed once they either buy a trailer frame or have one welded together to their specifications. Spousal resistance (if you have a spouse) might be another hurdle you have to encounter, however if you are able to attend any of the many teardrop gatherings in your area, she will soon see that we are a very friendly lot and full of tips and encouragement.

Other than that, I say go for it. You are the same place right now that many of us have been. So, check us out, get the info you need, start the ball rolling and by all means, take pics of your progress and ask any question you want, many will gladly answer. Who knows, it may totally change your life, and I can assure you it will definately alter your camping experiences...........Come join us at the campfire.

Welcome to the forum. If we can build a Tear anyone can. If you got a significant other build a 5" wide one. A queen size bed fits in nicely.
Enjoy your build.

Also maybe you should join the TearJerkers and get to a Teardrop Gathering, get lots of ideas there and you will be welcomed with open arms. The link is on the bottom line of the above heading. They will put you in a chapter for your area. :applause:
Hope to see you on the road.

As we tell all the newbies. Go to a gathering and visit. You will learn more in 2-3 hours than you will in weeks of reading. Many of these folks found themselves in just the same position and made it thru. Carter and Susan are the Kentucky Tearjerkers directors and will help you to find a good soul in the neighborhood. The Tennessee group are a graet bunch too. The tearjerkers link is above and there is a regional news section at the bottom of t&ttt. Have Fun !
