Hello from ChocolateTown, Pa

My wife and I are 50+ empty nesters who are getting back into camping. We started tent camping 30 years ago with our 1st son. Since then we had another son, a tent camper, 25' bunkhouse TT and then a 27' motorhome. When the boys married and went their separate ways we bought a 2nd home at the beach and thought that we had settled down. In April of 07' the misses was diagnosed as stage 3 breast cancer :( . 2 years later she had gone through chemo, radiation and 7 surgeries. In 09' she was recovered enough to start riding her motorcycle  . She hit a patch of stones and ended up in a ditch with 11 broken bones :( . 6 months of rehab and she was "almost" normal again. Keeping in mind that none of us are truely normal. Now, we had a 6x12 Haulmark cargo trailer set up for 2 motocycles sitting in the driveway taking up space. I had found this site last year and lurked for quite some time. I am in the process of converting the CT into a camper. We have the itch again to travel. After all we have gone through the last few years we have decided to start the "bucket list" since you just don't know how long you really have. We travel with 2 dogs. A JUG and a Malteschon. Both mixed breeds and our surrogate children. I will take and post pictures shortly of where I am in the conversion. I want to thank all the members :applause: for some of the very interesting and some truly unique ideas that are shared here. I hope to be able to add something to the discussion in the future.

Hi, and Welcome!
I'm in the Chicago area now, but I grew up outside of Harrisburg, PA. I remember touring the Hershey chocolate plant back when you still went through the real plant. Vats of chocolate being stirred .... Hershey kisses going by on a conveyor belt .... mixed miniature bars being dropped into their bags. Yum, but that smelled good!

I work at the Reese Plant and the town still smells of Chocolate and of course the roasted peanuts from Reeses. I gain 2 lbs every day just driving through that wonderful scent on the way into work. LOL I have worked there for over 34 years and I'll never get tired of it. What town did you grow up in?

Yes I know where Dillsburg is. I still could never understand the Polar Bear thing. Always thought that you guys should have been the Dillsburg Pickels. I bet that you NEVER heard that before. LOL

David Letterman did a show there, one New Years Eve (or was it Johnny Carson?) to watch the pickle drop. I think the pickle was created just for the occasion -- they certainly never had one when I lived in Dillsburg!

LShrew,
Welcome to the forum from another Pennsylvanian. Maybe you should join the TearJerkers (link is in the heading above on the bottom line) and attend a TearDrop Gathering so you can check out other Teardrops in your area. Youll love the people there. I believe theres a gathering at Knoebel Park end of October. '
Enjoy the build,
Bill and Marijo :applause:
Hope to see you on the road.

Thanks Bill and Marjo. We might just do that. Knoebel's Grove is a real nice place. And it is always fun to meet new people. Especially campers.

LShrew.
You are more than welcome  to come to a gathering this weekend above Pittsburgh @ Pymatuning State Park in Jamestown.
Its a gathering between Pennsylvania Liberty Bell Chapter and Ohio
BuckEye Chapter. A great group of campers. Youd be welcome with open arms.

I would love to but have to work. I haven't been to Pymatuning State Park in about 20 years. Still feeding the ducks walking on the carps backs? The boys had a ton of fun feeding them. I think that was at a place called the Linesville spillway. Have a blast!
