Newbie from Atlanta

Postby ETHER » Tue Oct 19, 2010 8:05 pm

Mostly into the old car scene and purchased a teardrop to pull behind my 51 Mercury. I have been after this little guy for YEARS and last weekend got the call!!!! Im stoked!! I plan on driving from Atlanta to Chicago and follow Route 66 to LA for the Fathers Day Roadster show next year with this behind the Merc.....and back to Atlanta!!!! Problem is I have to do a little resto work on the trailer and dont know what I bought or where to get parts. Its mostly there and needs some attention. It has a SUPER emblem on the back door. HELP!!!! I put some pics in my album. Not really wanting to sell but what does something like this little guy go for?? I got some help on the tearjerkers site and they told me to hang out here also!!!.......Chad

Welcome, your new baby is a looker!, you will need a couple of gallons of elbow grease, looks like its aluminum covered?...galley seem to be aluminum too, you may need to look in truck stops for light cover lenses, and light fixtures, you may need a new piano hinge for the galley hatch, a couple of windows, a ceiling vent ( very important, for air circulation) and a buffer to shine the skin to a mirror finish...you have a good start there!....I like the looks of it....

you may want to post pics from the interior too, for the looks of it, it may need some plywood and crossmembers replacement, but for the most part, you have a big part of the teardrop already made.

PS, make sure you inspect, and grease or replace ( if needed) the wheel bearings, that's one thing you will never regret.

lots of places in Ga......

here are some suppliers that may have the type and dimensions you need.

piano hinges

saw the pics, you may need to use some sand paper, and galvanizing paint, or bead blasting to remove the rust, scrap the mattress, and poke the wood with an awl to see if it roted, ( dry rot) it will need some rebuilding, but as any project, it will take some time.
