Greetings from a Fellow Camper in NY

Postby titanpat57 » Tue Jan 18, 2011 12:07 pm

Hi All!

Been lurking for awhile, and love all sorts of builds, but have a special place in my heart for homebuilt, backyard specials, I love them all!!

I started off as a carpenter, and had my own contracting business for 22 years, now I head up a Facilities Dept. at a college outside of NYC, and reside in Dutchess Co, NY.

My first love has always been camping. I started with my parants at a very young age, in a small camper known as a "Little Champ"...and I have seen one on here awhile back. We use to frequent PA state parks like Worlds End and Promised Land, and many smaller private campgrounds throughout the camping season. I grew up in the Williamsport, Pa area before moving to NY. I also enjoy bowhunting and flyfishing, but any fishing will do!

I did the large camper/dually truck thing for awhile, and it was nice, but not near as satisfying as building a smaller, lighter platform. The smaller trailers certainly are much more fun to tow! It's amazing how much wallop you can pack in 12' long..

So I got bit by the homemade trailer bug, and this my second build, my first was sold to gentleman from Quebec.

I look forward to meeting many fellow campers and builders.

Pat

Welcome to the forum, and have seen your other build posts. Stunning job you did. There seems to be a lot of Australian influences in your designs, ie. the outback tent on top. Luv, the fold down kitchen! There will be lots of inspiration for some builders here. For now I have 3 questions.

Is the interior of the camper used for sleeping or stowing camp items?
Where do you store the stove and sink?
Where did you get the water tank that fits over the axle?
Why just dance, when you can Salsa!

Thank you very much....I hope it helps or inspires other to enjoy the beauty of getting out!

Answers to questions:

1- Both, the material that makes the bed folds back to make a shelf that holds the plastic storage boxes I use to keep all other items in. The containers can be moved into the annex under the tent, and the bed folded out, then just blow up the air matress.

2- Stove and sink get stored inside the same plastic storage boxes, along with some other kitchen stuff

3- The water tank was bought from R+P Carriage Sales. Paul and Robin are great folks to deal with....and I got many componants for both builds from them. Fair pricing, fast shipping, and customer service second to none.... http://stores.ebay.com/R-and-P-Carriages-Trailer-Sales?_rdc=1

Just here for college. Went to Penn Tech a few years ago, and just came back this semester to take a few new courses. Looking forward to the weather warming up so I can get up to Rock Run!

Graduated from PT...back when it was called WACC....AHHH...Rock Run, probably one of the supreme trout streams in PA. Got chased out of the stream one time by a rattlesnake, so watch those overhangs closely!

Take care, Pat
