Teardrop with a bathroom

Postby grhartleroad » Sun Mar 13, 2011 9:18 am

I joined the forum a while back, started to build a teardrop with a bathroom.:D
Lost my job when it started to look like a teardrop.:x Had to move to the big city to find a new job. The trailer sat for about a year, but all of that is in the past now. The inside and the bathroom are mostly done. I used a trailer frame I had and built on that. I ordered the hot water shower yesterday, Eccotemp L5 Outdoor Portable Tankless Water Heater, can't wait for it to arrive. The sides are covered in aluminum. I put bigger wheels on it than come with the trailer. I'm going to put a porta potty next to the shower. The hatch goes up far enough to stand in the bathroom, canvas will cover the sides and rear when it's setup.
You can see pictures of the progress with the shower installed at my picture gallery on this site. I'm shooting to be done by June or July. Hope I can make one of the fall gatherings. I now live in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Hope to see some of you in the fall.

Very cool idea! You need to move this over the "Build" forum. A lot of folks - like me - want to incorporate a potty/shower but couldn't figure it out. I think you have a very unique alternative.

Just get it campable by July or you will miss one of the largest gatherings the midwest will see for a while.

Already over 100 trailers strong we will be at McCormick's Creek State Park in spencer IN.

Here is a link to the gathering.......http://cra2011.weebly.com/index.html

Reserve a spot NOW! a deadline helps any build :)

Ya just gotta join us , done or just "campable"

Mine's just "campable" but it only been 2 years :laughter:
Growing older but not up !

Nice design - However I do see one problem spot - it's the door way from the interior compartment to the shower / potty area.

Image

It will only open If you have the hatch up. Now this might not seem like much of a problem, unless you decide to have the hatch closed for a quickie overnight stay in a park until you you reach your final destination. But When the hatch is down - and go got to go - You'll be dancing around for a while until you get the hatch open. you could redesign the door and have the best of both - hatch open or closed.

You could make the door the same shape as the outside wall so when you open the door it will be the same shape. Frame out the doorjam to match the shape of the door. That way you could get to it with the hatch closed.

I thought about curving the door. The curve of the hatch decreases the height. I put the hatch down and a bucket the height of the porta potty, and found I would have to crawl to it, and sit bent to one side. The teardrop is 5' X 9' by 4'-6" tall.

You could just put the hatch up and leave it up and make a shower curtain that comes down over the hatch like a hood and covers the whole back end of the teardrop. That way, you could leave the door 'as is'. That's what I figured you planned on. It's not like you plan to cook in that area, do you?

The only problem with this idea is if you got a middle of the night "call,â€

I do plan on covering the hatch and run the material down the side and back.
It will snap on the sides and under the lower hatch. That way I can throw the material over the hatch and it will hang where I want it to, then just snap it.
