1st post just joined the site but have been lurking for a long time. I'm real interested in a foamy! I've got a little experience working with foam and the canvas technique. Back in another lifetime I made theatrical scenery. I have been thinking of using this method to make a truck camper for years covered in epoxy.

As an empty nester I've been doing a lot more camping lately with my online 4x club and also for fishing. I'm a backpacker historically but age and arthritis makes that difficult. So I still like simple. Mostly the camper will be used to base camp or for a quick over-nighter prior to a float trip in the canoes.

I have 2 trailers and ideas for both but still mulling over options and uses.
This is a small boat/jetski trailer that I have. It's a little over 4' between the wheels/fenders and has plenty of length for a traditional 4'x8' or even a 4'x10' teardrop with out a galley. I want to keep the 1st one simple. All I need is a no set up sleeping space.

The main limit of this trailer is rough roads. It has very small wheels and tires. I tend to camp in state or national forests where I might have to go a little distance on rough gravel or a short ways very slowly with almost no road.

That's where this trailer comes in. It will go anywhere the truck will go. It's an M416 military trailer. This shot was taken just before leaving on last weekend 4wheeling trip to the mountains in Va.

I've been thinking about putting a light weight deck on top and building a cheapo foamy "truck cap teardrop" on that. It would give me sleeping space and I could still haul firewood, water, porta pot ect underneath inside the trailer. Just a low sleeping space that I don't have to teardown in a hurry at 1st light and then dry out when I get home.

I actually did a canvas experiment recently. I made a fortified cardboard box to haul my grill in. Step 1 almost complete. TBII and an old bed sheet. I'm very pleased with the result on this 20 year old cardboard box. it still needs paint and a strap though.

I'd like to make a few more gear cases this way. I'm a reuse, recycle, cheap kind of person. You've got a great site here. Feel free to throw suggestions, questions, ideas my way. You can be sure I'll be asking lot's of questions myself.

w00h000 another Foamling! Welcome and jump in on the foamie threads. Look at GPWs 4x8' proof of concept foamie. It came out great. No galley, just sleeping area.
