I'm 63 years old, married and love traveling and camping. We have a 30' fifth wheel, but current fuel prices keep us close home. I've always had an eye towards TDs. My uncle was a member of a club in San Diego and was interviewed by Huel Howser for the PBS special, but ended up on the cutting room floor.
I had mentioned getting a smaller trailer and my wife said, "Why don't we get a tent?" I told her they weren't much good for traveling. I got to thinking, if she thinks a tent is OK, then a TD would be perfect. She's adventurous and doesn't require a lot of support equipment, so I think I'm going to pull the pin and build a TD. I am a retired carpenter/cabinet maker and, back in the early 70s, worked at Santa Fe Trailers here in SoCal. I'm also a certified welder and have a 1,000 sq ft home shop so I think I have the qualifications. I will be building a traditional looking unit, 5X10, rear galley. I have an idea for a slideout that I'm sure will work well and give us a more spacious interior. There is a wealth of information here and I will be picking your brains.
