Greetings all! Just picked up a restored 1946 Kit Mfg. Kamper this past Saturday. The wife and I have been hankering after a teardrop for several years now and 4th of July weekend in the tent at our friend's place up in Sonoma re-initiated the search. I'm so over the tent/air mattress... Guess the wife is too, I think she's more excited about the teardrop than I am!

In the past there has not been much of a selection in the vintage teardrop market when I've been hunting, but I guess it's a sign o'the times as there are a LOT of teardrops available in California at the moment. A bummer that so many folks must cut loose of their toys, but I was able to find exactly what I wanted in better condition than expected and all for a nice price, too!

Our Kit is pretty basic with a single door, original icebox in the galley, single cabinet under the counter and a single shelf above the counter. No stove or other cooking accoutrement so we'll be looking to outfit the galley with PC gear (BTW: that's "Period Correct," not the other sort of PC...). I'd like to extend the PC gear theme to the whole rig, I've got a 1946 Studebaker M5 Coupe Express truck to pull the Kit and a 1946 BSA XB31 motorcycle for "local transport" so I'm off to a pretty good start!

Looking forward to getting out there, using this camper as was intended by the maker and hopefully getting to know some of you good folks along the way. Till then!

If you're talking about the one in Fairfax for $800, no. I remember seeing that ad, but I've been looking at so many teardrops the past week that I can't remember any specifics and I didn't save any pics (I seem to recall that one was a bit funky...) Did anybody save any pics of the Fairfax teardrop?

The one we got also came from CL, but it was down in Salinas. The asking price was very reasonable for a vintage teardrop in such nice condition. I seriously don't think it needs any work other than a wheel bearing adjustment and outfitting with gear!

I meant to post some pics in my album, I'll do that now.
