This sight is fantastic! Welcome. I enjoy reading the build journals as well as the members designs.
I would start building right now if my finances were a bit better but, I received some advice, start buying some of the cheaper stuff now and when I do start my build, it won't be such a burden.
Welcome aboard,
Frank :SG
I am not weird, I am a Limited Edition.

Helllo guys.

Does anyone have any experience with monopan http://www.tctman.com.au/technology_materials_1.html???

I visited the factory today and it seems to have great potential for a light weight option

Hi Grant, I'vve been playing with a similar product but in aluminium. The only problem I can see is in the fixing side. Doors, roof, galley hinge, cupboards etc. I know they say it's simple but experience shows me that a lot of due care has to be taken to ensure the long life of the joint.

Also, what's the cost comparison to plywood?

Cheers

the cost is fairly high compared to plywood. A 6000 X 2500 mm sheet is around AUD$1500 for 25mm thickness. This is fairly expensive. :(

The upside is it seems fairly easy to work with and the guys at the factory have offered there full support to trouble shoot the build

I cant help but think that is I use 3/4" ply and route out a skeleton and fill with light weight insulation that I can keep the weight to a minimal ( and the cost) Paul.

One of my stumbling blocks here in Perth is that I have never seen a TD on the road to help in my R and D!!!

Grant, Frank Atkins in Esperance has built one. He's on the Aussie forum. Reiner, from Aussie Teardrop Campers, has sold a couple over there too. Maybe contact him coz I know that one couple over there are open to people viewing their TD.
