Hello from Seattle - Here to convince BF to build vs buy

Postby Colesss » Mon Aug 22, 2011 11:09 am

Hello All,

I am new to the T&TTT scene. I have been interested in a Teardrop trailer for a while. I want to have one to go camping around the wonderful mountains in the Seattle area. I also want one to go to burning man with. My boyfriend is hesitant about building one because he does not know what is involved and how much skill is needed, such as welding. He wants to buy one but I am hesitant because they are so expensive and any we find on craigslist are not exactly what we are looking for. Any suggestions folks?

Hello Cole, welcome to our little asylum...skils??? can he cut a relatively straight line, can he drive a screw...if so, he has more skils than some, who have come here and built very nice tears...welding??? there are ways around that...buy a bolt together, find a local welder,/trailer shop to weld one up OR find a friend with welding skils and have him weld one up for supper and beer...one of the main things is to get him HERE, to read and learn all about tears...keeping an eye on the gatherings in your area and visiting one can work wonders as well...Burningman??? there will be several tears/members from here will be there as well..................

If all else fails and you can't talk him into it. Then buy one and sell it when he does feel confortable building your own. I don't think its that hard to sell one. The tears I have seen for sale sell perty quick.

Thank you madjack for the welcome.

My boyfriend definitely knows his way around tools since he deals with house restoration projects and mold remediation. He just might be a tiny bit lazy. Our old roommate also is a carpenter and one of my good friends is an airplane mechanic so he would know how to weld. I am the one who really wants to do this project since I have never done something like this.

If you have that much of a desire, build it yourself. Maybe he'll get on board if you get it going. Then again if you start building you might not want him to get in your way.

Hello from the other side of the mountains. Go and hang out with a bunch of Teardroppers. Warning the more that you camp with us, the more that you will want them.
